The Recap

Twenty Diplomats, One Rising Tide 🌊

adjusts headset Twenty players signed the Accords and stepped onto the Yellows layout at River Bottoms for the Draper Tide, Week 4 of 9, on a day that started at 56.7°F and finished at 81.8°F with barely a breath of wind off the Jordan. The currents shifted this week — new hole, new tide table — but the deep still sent a full roster of envoys to inspect the paperwork, and for once the booth had enough diplomats to make a quorum.

A New Course Record, No Big Deal

RPA Gold belonged to Kenneth Oetker, who shot -7 for a 51 that erased the course record and stood as the event-wide round of the day at 1005 — 45 points above his rating. He pulled even with Chris Norman through holes 6 and 8, then took the lead through hole 9 and never gave it back, carding a clean front nine with no bogeys and the field's only birdie on hole 9 (405 ft, field average +0.9). Malachi Vazquez grabbed the final cash spot at -5 with a 985, Nick Jennings charged from 6th to 3rd on a six-stroke back-nine swing that included clutch Circle 2 putts on 17, and Bobby Schneck answered a +4 hole 9 with a birdie on 10 to climb from 7th to 4th.

Lead Changes Like Tides, Thirteen Deep

RAH Blue produced a leaderboard that changed hands like a river at flood stage. Tyler Romney took it at -2 with a 956 — 31 points above his rating — but only after Thomas Sautel pulled even through hole 5, Baylor Sandberg seized the lead through 6, Tongia Vakaafi led through 9, Tyler reclaimed through 10, Thomas pulled even again through 12, and Tyler finally held it through 13 when Thomas bogeyed out. Baylor and Thomas tied for second at even with matching 937s. Tongia's front nine ran five strokes better than his back and he faded to 12th on a 908, 41 below his rating; Chris Fox climbed from 5th to T4 on a three-stroke back-nine charge and set a personal best for this layout at +3.

Wire to Wire, No Committee Needed

RAE Red needed no recount. Scott Romney took the lead through hole 3 and never relinquished it, closing at +1 with a 927 and the field's lone birdie on hole 3 (282 ft, average +0.3). Michael Whipple took second at +10 on a four-stroke back-nine charge from 3rd to 2nd, locking the final cash spot. Caleb Christensen finished +11 with an 830 — 29 points above his 801 rating — and bounced from +2 on hole 16 to a birdie on 17. Ene Betham closed +19 and answered a +3 hole 7 with a birdie on hole 8.

Two Players, One Stolen on 18

RAD White came down to the final hole. Joel Benavidez took it at +1 with a 927, 24 points above his 903 rating, overtaking Zack White, who had led since hole 6 and faded to +2 after a front nine that ran six strokes better than his back. Joel's own back nine ran five strokes better than his front, and he answered a +3 hole 9 with a birdie on 10 to stay in range for the last-hole heist.

Solo Envoys, Open Invitations

RAF Green and RAG Purple each had a single entry. Stephen Marks shot +13 with an 810, 22 points above his 788 rating, riding a five-hole par train from 3 through 7 before three bogeys to close on 16-18. Emma Kelly shot +20 with a 742. Both divisions are open for challengers next week — the deep would prefer a debate to a monologue.

Three Deuces From 420, Naturally

Three players joined the 420 Club with deuces on holes measuring 420 feet or longer: Tyler Romney and Bobby Schneck on hole 13 (420 ft), and Baylor Sandberg on hole 18 (429 ft). Long holes, short memories.

The Pot Grows, Nobody Cashes

The Super Ace pot took on $26.00 from 13 contributors, lifting the balance from $2,012.00 to $2,038.00. No ace was recorded, so the carryover drama rolls into Week 5 with the pot intact and the suspense compounding.

Skins: Ten for the Record Keeper

Three players opted into the skins card and $13.50 changed hands. Kenneth Oetker took the top haul with 10 skins ($7.50), including a four-skin carryover scoop on hole 6. Nick Jennings collected 7 ($5.25) with a late swing on hole 16 and a closer on 18. Caleb Christensen grabbed his first skin on hole 1 ($0.75). Full rules in the skins playbook.

The Course Fund's Weekly Tribute

This event raised $10.00 through the league's registration contribution, bringing the River Bottoms Course Fund to $917.83 of its $1,000.00 goal — $82.17 left to close the gap.

AllIn Means Nobody Keeps Their Tag

Pool B's #1 tag, the Spectral Registry, now sits with Scott Romney after the AllIn reshuffle. Every tag is redistributed each event in AllIn mode — no defense is possible, and absence means demotion to the back of the line. The Registry changes rulers; it does not negotiate.

Next Week: Escorting a VIP, Obviously

Kenneth Oetker has a fresh course record and a target on his back, and RAH Blue's thirteen-lead-change chaos is unresolved. Week 5, The Deep Files, lands at River Bottoms on October 14 with the same layout and a story about lost discs recovered from the mud revealing secrets about the river's past inhabitants — while players navigate soggy fairways escorting a VIP from the court. A course record is one thing; carrying a dignitary through a mud pit is another.
