The Dust Remembers What You Forgot
Can't Hide From the Dust
Aspects refreshed Jun 13, 2026
The Dust Shroud is older than the culling itself - it exists as the frontier's original defense mechanism, the ancient dust storm that has always protected the Deadlands' secrets. Only those who prove they can read the swirling particles' patterns earn the Shroud's protection. It formed when the first competitors learned to move with the dust rather than against it, and the frontier granted them its oldest gift: concealment from judgment.
The Dust Shroud manifests as a shimmering curtain of tan and gold particles that perpetually swirls around its bearer, never settling completely. Within the dust, faint spectral faces occasionally form and dissolve - the whispered voices of the forgotten made visible. The shroud moves with the bearer's intent, thinning when they approach danger and thickening when they need protection. It provides slight resistance to supernatural culling effects like green fog and brine storms.
The Dust Shroud serves as a protective barrier that allows its bearer to navigate the Deadlands' hazards unnoticed by the culling mechanism. Unlike mathematical survival tags or predatory identities, the Shroud represents survival through blending and understanding - an alternative path to remembrance that rewards wisdom over aggression.
