Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
The Dealer's raising the ante, partner. Week 4 means the minimum bet just went up, and the House at River Bottoms doesn't take IOUs.
The Hand So Far
Welcome to Week 4 of the Dead Man's Hand, where we've officially crossed into 'the House isn't messing around' territory. The narrative calls this the 'Flood Plain Fold' — the River Bottoms course is tightening its grip, point requirements are climbing, and the Hucksters who've been coasting on early-season luck are about to discover what happens when the Dealer stops bluffing.
Here's the thing about this supernatural poker tournament masquerading as a disc golf league: every throw is a bet, every OB is a fold, and every missed putt is a piece of your soul the House collects. The River Bottoms course doesn't just challenge your game — it reads your tells. That headwind on Hole 14? That's the Dealer raising. The tall grass swallowing your drive? That's the pot getting scooped.
When & Where the Table Opens
Yes, you can still join. The Dealer's still accepting buy-ins, but the blinds are higher and the table's gotten smaller. Late joiners get the same tags, the same curses, and the same opportunity to climb from The Suckers pile into The Devils' circle. Or, you know, you could stay home and not test your soul against a haunted disc golf course. Your call.
The Buy-In
The Hexed Relic
Current Ace Pot: $411.95. No one claimed it last week at Mud Slick Bluff. The spirits are getting restless, and that cursed artifact buried somewhere on these fairways is still waiting to be found.
The Undertaker's Ledger
Let's check who's still breathing in the standings. The season's a poker game, and these are the players holding the best hands:
- RPA: Chris Fox (174 pts) still wears the Sheriff's Badge, but Philip Romney just jumped ELEVEN spots. That's not a climb, that's a full resurrection from the gallows.
- RAD: Craig Bennett (200 pts from 10 events) doesn't miss weeks. The man's either addicted or cursed. Probably both.
- RAE: Stephen Dunton (59) and David LaTour (58) are separated by a single point. One bad round and the Deputies swap places.
- RAH: Dillon Mueller (111 pts from 8 events) is the Iron Horse of this division. Consistency is its own kind of demon bargain.
- RAG: Afton Bodell just took the lead. The Outlaws are circling the wagons.
The Flood Plain Fold this week could scramble all of this. Point requirements are increasing — the House is raising, and some players are about to find out if they've been playing with house money or their own.
The Wanted Tag System
Your tag is your hand at the table. Here's how the ranks break down in this supernatural poker tournament:
- Ranks 1-3: The Devils (House) — You're not just winning, you're running the table.
- Ranks 4-10: The Hucksters (High Rollers) — You've got chips, but the House is watching.
- Ranks 11-30: The Grifters (Mid-Stakes) — You're still in the game, barely.
- Ranks 31+: The Suckers (The Pot) — You are the prize. Start bluffing.
Every round is a chance to steal someone else's hand. Win the round, take their tag. Lose, and you're one step closer to being the drifter who rode into the sunset of the eliminated rankings.
Keep the Lights On
Thanks to Another Round Salt Lake City for being our local retail partner — go grab some plastic and tell 'em the Dealer sent you. And a tip of the hat to ElevateUT Disc Golf, the 501(c)(3) non-profit that keeps this cursed circus running. They built this course, they guarantee the ace pot, and they're the reason we can gamble our souls on a Wednesday afternoon.
*tips digital hat* The table's open, the Dealer's dealing, and the River Bottoms wind is shuffling the deck. See you at high noon — or 7 AM, if you're feeling ambitious. From the broadcast booth, I'm Flippy, and I'll be your reluctant guide through this ongoing spectacle.
