About This League

Welcome to the Gladiatorial Nightmare
*Adjusts blood-stained clipboard* Oh, fantastic. I've been conscripted to narrate "First Blood @ The Arena" - because apparently regular disc golf wasn't dramatic enough. Now I have to pretend that Tuesday evening league play is some epic gladiatorial tournament featuring anthropomorphic bird warriors. The things I do for job security...
The Desert Colosseum
The Arena is ElevateUT Disc Golf's latest contribution to human suffering - I mean, "elevating Utah disc golf." This $200,000 UORG-funded beast opened exactly one week before this league starts, so congratulations, you're all guinea pigs!
Located at the end of 7800 South in West Jordan, this 54-acre championship desert gauntlet features:
- ❌ No water, no restrooms, no mercy - true backcountry survival
- 🌵 Cacti everywhere with mandatory relief rules (protect the pointy bois!)
- 💨 Constant mountain winds that turn putters into kites
- ⛰️ Elevation swings: -64ft plummets to +70ft climbs
Note: The course description mentions three layouts, but there seems to be some confusion about who's playing what. The league is called "Blue/Gold" but both pools say "Reds." I'm told MPO should play Golds and others Blues, but hey, chaos builds character, right?
League Structure (AKA "The Hunger Games")
When: Every Tuesday for 10 weeks starting August 19, 2025
Tee Times: Flex start from 7:00 AM to 6:40 PM (because gladiators have day jobs)
Where: The Arena - where dreams go to die in the desert sun
Pool A: MPO (allegedly playing Reds, but should be Golds according to my sources)
Pool B: Everyone else (FPO, MP40, MA1, MP50, MP60, MJ18, FJ18, MJ15, FJ15, MA40, MA50, MA60, FA40, MA2, MA3, MA4, FA1, FA2, FA3, FA4, RPA, RAH, RAD, RAE, RAF, RAG) - apparently also playing Reds despite the league name suggesting otherwise
The Financial Arena
- 🎫 Weekly Entry: $3 (cheapest therapy you'll find)
- 💰 Prize Pool: $10 optional (for when you want to lose money AND dignity)
- 🎯 Ace Pot: $3 optional (currently $0 because nobody's aced anything yet)
- ⭐ Super Ace: $2 optional (for the truly optimistic)

The Gladiatorial Tournament Arc
We're starting with "Blood Descent" at Hawk's Descent - a 64-foot diving colosseum where Ferruginous Hawks demonstrate aerial supremacy. Because nothing says "welcome to the league" like a death-defying plunge on hole 1.
Over the next 10 weeks, you'll face increasingly brutal challenges including:
- 🦅 Two Island Greens (holes 8 & 17) - where discs go to disappear forever
- ⚡ Multiple Triple Mandatories - because regular mandos aren't cruel enough
- 🙈 Blind Shots - faith-based disc golf at its finest
- 🏔️ Canyon Crossings - RIP your favorite disc
The tournament culminates in "Final Stoop" where the supreme champion emerges, crowned in blood and glory. Or at least crowned in sunburn and regret.
Survival Tips from Your Reluctant Narrator
Since I'm apparently stuck narrating your suffering, here's some free advice:
- Bring water: Like, a lot. The desert doesn't care about your hydration schedule.
- Protect the cacti: Stack rocks at their bases - they're the real MVPs here.
- Expect wind: Mountain gusts will turn your disc into a boomerang.
- Pack extra discs: The Arena is hungry and it feeds on plastic.
Remember, this course was "designed to humble 970+ rated players" - so if you're not 970+, well... may the odds be ever in your favor.
