Eleven Knights Breathe the Chains ๐
Eleven players, Tetons 9-hole, "Chain Breath," Week 5 of 9 โ average 54.2ยฐF, wind averaging 3.1 mph and topping out at 3.4, clear skies over the Oquirrh foothills. The air was supposed to be the opponent this week: every putt a negotiation, every chain rattle a small threat in the dropping cold. Week 4 handed out the Mantle; this is the first chapter about carrying it.
A Birdie on 18 and a Borrowed Mantle ๐
David LaTour pulled even with Robert Bumgarner through hole 17, then birdied 18 to take RAE Red outright at -6 on a 901-rated round โ 66 points above his rating. The turn happened earlier, when Bumgarner took the lead from Michael Whipple through 13; Whipple had led through 12 and faded to 4th at -4. LaTour's back nine ran 4 strokes better than his front, lifting him from 3rd to 1st, and from hole 13 to 18 he stacked six birdies or better. Bumgarner answered with a clean back nine and an 886 of his own, 42 over rating, which held the final cash spot at -5. Whipple's lone field birdie on the 280-foot 6th โ everyone else averaged +0.3 there โ was the prettiest thing on a card that ran out of holes.
Fifteen Strokes, No Witnesses ๐
No lead changes in RPA Gold, so the margin does the talking: Malachi Vazquez at -6, fifteen clear of Daniel Sainz at +9. Vazquez's 901 sits 59 points under his 960, softened by a clean front nine that ran 4 strokes better than the back, and he landed 2nd on the card โ right on the bubble, with last cash at 1st. It's still a climb from Week 4's 7th, a 69-point rating swing. Sainz opened with a five-hole par train from 1 to 5 and his front nine finished 5 strokes better than the back.
Sixteen Holes of Hope, Then Frost ๐
John Montague took the lead through hole 16 and closed RAG Purple at +14 โ a personal best on this course and layout. Jeff Christensen led through 14 before four bogeys or worse from 15 to 18, a front nine 8 strokes better than the back, finishing +16. First league event, first Death Curse entry, 580-rated: the ledger has a new name in it.
The Court Needs More Signatures ๐
Two solo cards this week, and both made the most of the space: Shane Cooper shot 886 against an 811 rating โ 75 points of swing โ while Kent Moos went bogey-free for a 959, 38 over his 921 and the top rating of the event. Those chairs are open. The Court could use the signatures.
A Split Pot With No Takers ๐
The Super Ace pot took contributions from seven players at $14.00 apiece and moved from $2,308.00 to $2,322.00. Split pot, no ace to claim it โ the balance just keeps breathing.
Five Ninety-Five, Fully Documented ๐
The Tetons 9-hole course fund took in $5.95 this event: $5.50 from league registration and a $0.45 winnings donation from LaTour. Current total raised sits at $181.50, with $0.00 remaining.
The Phantom Finds Nothing to Charge ๐
Iron Legion runs AllIn โ full reshuffle every event, and absence buries you at the bottom. Kent Moos played, entered at #4, and left holding #1 with the Clause Phantom. The card: 44 against a field average of 51.7, 7.7 strokes better than the room, +38 over his own rating and six strokes clear of his personal average. The Phantom's quill is meant to write violations in real time, and its eyes shift green or red with whoever it watches โ this week it just followed a clean sheet around the park.

The Second Loop Expects Comfort ๐
Moos's bogey-free 959 and that new #1 signature carry into Week 6, "Second Loop," October 23 at the same Tetons 9-hole on the Cold Iron Two Times Tetons League Layout. The storyline says the league's true nature reveals itself, and that only those who mastered the first loop survive the deepening freeze of the second. LaTour's final-hole birdie is the standard; the second pass asks for the comfort you were leaning on. Registration is open at the event page, and if you tracked your round on PDGA Live, the record is already in the file.

Anyway, "surrender your comfort" is a big ask for a nine-hole park course with a playground next to hole 1.
