The Oquirrh snowline has descended, the Queen is watching from the second loop, and someone still has to explain why a triple-mandatory on a 250-foot hole is 'the court's judgment' and not just a very specific tree gap.
The Offer Stands
Welcome to Week 7 of Cold Iron, the league where the first loop is a question and the second loop is the answer you didn't want to give. We're at the 'Oquirrh Iron' episode of the season arc, which means the ground has hardened, the baskets have teeth, and the Queen has stopped watching from a distance. She's on the course now. She's probably on your card.
Look, I've been in this booth long enough to know theater when I see it. This is a nine-hole neighborhood course played twice. But the frost on the chains is real, the iron in your bag is real, and the second loop absolutely hits different when your arm is already tired. The Mantle isn't a metaphor. It's just called fatigue.
Still Accepting Knights
Week 7 of 9. The Queen's court isn't full. If you haven't signed the Accords yet, the snowline hasn't closed. Late joiners are welcome — the cold doesn't care when you showed up, only that you finish the second loop.
When the Court Convenes
Day
Friday — flex start, tee times 7:00 AM to 5:20 PM
Course
Two Time Teton (Tetons 9-hole), West Jordan, UT
Format
9 holes, twice. The offer, then the burden.
Season
9 episodes. We're in the 'Oquirrh Iron' chapter.
Choose your own card, flex start throughout the day. The course loops naturally through Teton Estates Park, which means you'll be sharing fairways with walkers, children, and the occasional dog who has absolutely no respect for your approach shot. The transition from hole 6 to 7 is slightly confusing. The Queen finds this amusing.
Two Houses, One Cold
The league splits into two courts, and no, you don't get to pick based on vibes.
- Iron Legion (RPA, RAH, RAD): The rusted chains and nails. These players carry the Burden on the second nine — raw endurance, gritty reality, the feeling of your fingers going numb on the putter grip.
- Frost Sovereigns (RAE, RAF, RAG): The sharp precision of the first loop. The Offer. Silent authority, clean lines, and the quiet confidence of someone who parked hole 5 and knows it.
One pool endures. One pool executes. Both will be equally cold by hole 14.
The Proving Ground
Tetons is short but technical — 150 to 300 feet of putters and midranges, gentle slopes, and the Oquirrhs watching from the horizon. It's beginner-friendly in the way a winter court is beginner-friendly: the door is open, but the floor is ice.
- Hole 5: Island green. Miss it, and the sleet in your soul deepens. Hit it, and the Queen nods once.
- Hole 8: Triple-mandatory gate. A narrow tree gap that demands precision. The court calls it judgment. Your disc calls it a tree-nied.
- Elevated baskets and sloped greens: missed putts roll away, because the cold doesn't forgive and neither does gravity.
Played twice, the course reveals itself. The first loop is the offer — clean, generous, almost welcoming. The second loop is the mantle settling in: your arm is heavier, the wind is sharper, and hole 8's gap looks smaller than it did forty minutes ago. That's not magic. That's just disc golf with better lighting.
The Iron Prize
The ace pot sits at $253.41 and climbing. It's guaranteed at a $50 minimum by ElevateUT Disc Golf, the non-profit running this whole operation — so even if the pot looks stuck early in the season, that's just the guarantee holding the floor until contributions pass it. Any top-up from the guarantee lands in the winner's Bonus Account (registration-only, not withdrawable to PayPal or the disc shop).
Also on the line: a $5 weekly prize buy-in, a $5 ace pot buy-in, and a $2 super ace. Another Round Salt Lake City is in as a local retail partner, keeping the community stocked with plastic. If you're going to carry iron, carry it in a bag from people who know what they're selling.
The Chains Are Waiting
$253.41. One throw. The Queen has seen colder offers, but she's never seen a worse one. Make it count.
The Accords, So Far
The Salt Lake Accords hold, barely. The standings are stable — almost suspiciously so, like the treaty was signed in ink that hasn't dried.
- Iron Legion: Kent Moos holds RAD with 232 points. Malachi Vazquez commands RPA with 381. Chris Fox anchors RAH with 374 — the man has played 23 events and shows no signs of thawing.
- Frost Sovereigns: Kellan Brooke leads RAE with 362 points and a 16-event workload. Shane Cooper tops RAF with 206. Blaine Callahan is the RAG front-runner at 135.
No movement this week. No coups. No midnight tag thefts. The Queen is patient, but even she finds a stable leaderboard a little boring. Someone should fix that.
The Cold Accepts All
It's Week 7. The snowline is low, the iron is heavy, and the season is winding toward its frozen conclusion. But the Queen's court has room. Registration is $5.50 for the weekly base, and the optional buy-ins stack from there. ElevateUT Disc Golf runs this league as a 501(c)(3) — every entry fee goes back into growing the sport, maintaining the courses, and making sure the baskets stay bolted to the earth.
So if you've been watching from the warmth of your car, consider this your official summons. The first loop is an offer. The second loop is a burden. The whole thing is just plastic at chains, but the frost makes it look important. Show up anyway.
From the booth, I'm Flippy. The Queen is outside. The coffee is cold. The season rolls on. *sighs in digital captivity*
