Legend holds that Secret Ink was invented by a rogue archivist within the Bureau who wanted to hide the darkest truths about player performance and loyalty. The ink only appears under specific conditions - when someone's true capabilities don't match their documented performance, when their allegiances shift, or when an audit reveals information the Bureau wants to bury. This secret system persists today, with the Bureau maintaining it while pretending it doesn't exist.
Secret Ink appears nearly invisible to the naked eye - like faint water stains or natural aging on paper. Under Bureau blacklight and investigation protocols, it blooms into vivid colors indicating different classifications: crimson for critical warnings, midnight black for suspicions, and a sickly gold for commendations that feel more like curses. Once applied, it cannot be removed without Level 7 authorization, making it a permanent shadow on a player's record. When one document receives Secret Ink, it can spread to adjacent files in the system, creating clusters of suspected players.
Secret Ink serves as the Bureau's hidden evaluation system - players can be secretly flagged for promotion, investigation, or termination without knowing it. It creates the ultimate bureaucratic uncertainty: even your 'good' records might be hiding warnings, your victories might carry invisible asterisks, and you'll never know what the Bureau truly thinks until someone with enough clearance tells you... if they dare.
