The Recap

Roots Rise, Pavement Doesn't ๐Ÿ˜‘

adjusts headset Fourteen players signed in for Week 5 of 9, and the cart paths at Roots are losing an argument they've been having with the tree roots since 2014. The necromancy is literal now โ€” concrete splitting, turf heaving, the earth filing paperwork for repossession. Still night, 0.0 mph average wind, temps from 42.8 to 63.1ยฐF. The river chapters are behind us. This one belongs to what's underneath.

Peter Haws And The 65-Foot Argument ๐Ÿ˜‘

David LaTour pulled even with Peter Haws on hole 18 to force the tie at -1 in RAE Red, after the pair traded the lead at holes 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 14 and 16 โ€” a card that couldn't pick a winner if you spotted it a coin. Both winners rated 910: LaTour 75 points above his 835, Haws 47 above his 863. Stephen Dunton carded the field's only birdie on hole 9 (Par 3, 401ft, field average +0.6) on the way to an 885 that runs 31 over his rating. Nicholas Stosiek posted a personal-best even-par and an 897, 25 over his own number, finishing one spot outside the last cash at 2nd. Timothy Scholle closed at 712.

One Clean Round, Zero Bogeys, Full Volume ๐Ÿ˜‘

Malachi Vazquez went bogey-free at -5, and that's your event-wide round of the day: 959. Clean front nine, clean back nine, a five-hole par train from 11 through 15, and the final cash spot locked down in RPA Gold. Britain Best took the lead on hole 5 with the field's only birdie there (Par 3, 345ft, field average +0.5); Malachi pulled even on 6, took the lead on 9, got re-tied on 15, and took it for good on 16 when Britain Best bogeyed. Britain's 922 sits 25 under his 947. Nick Jennings saw a three-hole heater (6-8) end and found OB on holes 5 and 9, still good for a share of second at -2.

Kent Moos Took The Lead And Kept Walking ๐Ÿ˜‘

RAD White belonged to Kent Moos from hole 5 onward โ€” he led through 18 and finished +2, an 873 that runs 48 points below his 921 rating. Last week he was -2 and one stroke behind LaTour; this week the number slid the other direction. Anthony Kai finished +4 at 848, 45 under his 893, after a four-over hole 1 that he answered with a birdie on 2 and two under across the next three. The bounce-back was real. The scoreboard didn't care.

A Front Nine Heater And A Late Collapse ๐Ÿ˜‘

RAF Green ended in a deadlock: Shane Cooper and William Fetzer tied at +5, with Fetzer taking the lead on hole 4, Cooper on hole 6, and Fetzer again on hole 16. Cooper's front nine ran three strokes better than his back and he led through hole 11 before the fade; his 836 is 25 points above his 811 and a personal best of +5 on this layout. Fetzer led through hole 17 and then the card stopped cooperating. Two players, one score, no winner's circle.

Two Soloists, No Choir ๐Ÿ˜‘

Solo cards in RAH Blue and RAG Purple, so we're reporting rounds, not results: Baylor Sandberg posted -4 at 947 with the field's only birdie on hole 3 (Par 3, 235ft), a clean front nine and a five-hole par train from 5 through 9, while Emma Kelly shot +11 at 762 โ€” 28 points above her 734 โ€” with a front nine three strokes better than her back. Both chairs are open. Bring a friend and there's an actual division next week.

$2,190 And No Ace To Show ๐Ÿ˜‘

Twelve contributors put in $24.00 this event, moving the Super Ace balance from $2,166.00 to $2,190.00. It carried no winner. The pot rolls on, patient as the roots under the cart path.

$68.03 Between Roots And A Payday ๐Ÿ˜‘

This event raised $7.76 for the Roots Course Fund, pushing the total to $931.97 โ€” 93% of the $1,000.00 goal, with $68.03 still to go. Credit the league's $7.00 registration contribution and the winnings donations of $0.38 each from David LaTour and Peter Haws. The course that keeps hosting us keeps getting a little more of itself back.

One Defense Down, A Line Forming Behind ๐Ÿ˜‘

David LaTour successfully defended the #1 bag tag for the first time โ€” his "Still Standing" milestone โ€” on the strength of a -1 round with five birdies, and the tag stays put. No spotlight or challenge matchups were supplied this week, so the honest report is this: the crown didn't move, and everyone behind it now knows exactly what the defense looks like. Line up.

Next Week: Two Keys, One Choir ๐Ÿ˜‘

Choir Clash arrives October 22 on the same Roots layout, and the season has officially stopped pretending. Competing factions of drummers are trying to dictate the tempo, and the bone choir is singing in two different keys โ€” which means the noise is coming for the putters, not the fairways. Kent Moos's 48-point slide has a week to reverse. The RAH Blue and RAG Purple chairs have a week to fill. David LaTour has a tag to keep defending, which is now a habit rather than a fluke.

A choir in two keys isn't a choir. It's an argument with harmonies.
