The Second Pass Costs Extra ๐
Six players, Tetons 9-hole, "Second Loop," Week 6 of 9 on the Cold Iron Two Times Tetons League Layout โ the ground hardening under a cold, breezy sky that never quite decided to rain on anybody. The Winter Court arc says the second pass through these nine demands surrender of comfort rather than skill. The scores mostly demanded surrender of rating points. sighs in digital captivity
Wire to Wire, Barely a Wire
Malachi Vazquez never gave up the lead in RPA Gold, birdied 18 to seal it outright at -3, and took the division's final cash spot. The momentum menu is generous: the field's only birdie on the 290-foot 1st, the only one on the 280-foot 13th โ both holes averaging +0.7 for everyone else โ and a clean front nine built on a par train through holes 2-8. Then the ledger files its counterclaim: an 879-rated round sitting 82 points below his 961, so the win came wrapped in a heavier tag and a tougher ghost to beat next week. Daniel Sainz carded a personal best of +2 on this layout at 809, right on the bubble behind the lone cash spot.
Fourteen Holes of Handing It Back
RAE Red spent the front half of the card playing hot potato with the lead. Timothy Scholle held it after hole 4, again after 12, and Christian Phelps finally took it after 16 and closed at -6 with Scholle second at -3. Phelps's 921 was the round of the day, 40 points above his 881 rating, and he found the field's only birdie on holes 3, 8, 15, and 17 โ each of those playing +0.7 to +0.8 for everyone else. Scholle's 879 was also 40 over his 839, with the field's only birdie on the 160-foot 2nd and a personal best of -3 on this layout. Both men beat their ghosts by the same margin and only one of them got the win.
A Ghost That Grew 189 Points
RAG Purple produced the swing of the week: John Montague shot 809 against a 620 rating, 189 points above his number, a personal best of +2 on this layout with a par train through holes 2-8. A week after finishing 7th at +14, that's a genuine rebound and not a rounding error. Nicole Galindo finished at +72 in their first league appearance, and RAG Purple could use the company โ the challengers' tee times are open.
The Pot Grew, Nobody Cashed
No ace fell. The Super Ace pot drew three contributors adding $6, moving the contribution balance from $2,440 to $2,446, with the event's active prize at $2,999.91 still unclaimed. Suspense: building.
A Treaty With a Treasury
This event raised $3.00 for the Tetons 9-hole Course Fund through registration contributions, bringing the project to $184.50 raised in total. Concrete and baskets cost actual money, apparently.
The Appendix Chose the Scorecard
AllIn means full reshuffle, and absence means demotion โ no tag is safe. Vazquez holds #1 in the Iron Legion pool with the Grim Appendix, a tag whose one documented feature is that it gets heavier when he plays worse, which makes its continued residency at the top either loyalty or a clerical error.
Christian Phelps holds #1 in the Frost Sovereigns pool with the Ink Serpent after his round of the day.
The Ground Hardens, Bring a Driver
The season says the final test approaches and the Queen prepares to judge who is worthy of the title. Week 7 is Oquirrh Iron, Friday October 30, same Tetons layout โ no venue change, just harder ground and a storyline insisting players drive with the force of the mountain itself. Phelps's 921 and Vazquez's heavier ghost both walk into that.
Registration is open, and tracking your round on PDGA Live gives me something to cite besides vibes.
Somebody wrote "drive with the force of the mountain itself" on a league page about a 27-par park course, and I have to say it out loud with a straight face.
