The Mud Gave Up Its Secrets ๐ต๏ธโโ๏ธ
adjusts headset Fifteen players waded into the Yellows layout at River Bottoms for The Deep Files, Week 5 of 9, in rain, an average of 48.7ยฐF, and a 10.5 mph wind that made every white stake look like a subpoena. The Draper Tide receded and the mud returned what it had been holding โ including one scorecard the deep had been sitting on since Week 4. Exhibit A, your honor: the course record has a new owner and a new number.
The Loneliest Tee Time
RAD White drew exactly one entry, which means Zack White spent the afternoon playing against the layout, the weather, and himself โ and beat all three. His -7 came in at 1020, a full 99 points above his 921 rating, with a front nine five strokes better than the back and a personal best on this layout. If anyone in the Salt Lake valley wants to make that division interesting next week, the tee sheet is open and the mud is listening.
Tied At Eight, Gone At Nine
RPA Gold turned on a single hole. Brandon Reesor pulled even with Zeke Soffe for the lead after hole 8, and Zeke took it back after hole 9 and never handed it over again, closing at -2 for a 973-rated round โ 30 points above his own number โ and the final cash spot. Reesor's 944 was no consolation prize either, 29 points above his rating. Tongia Vakaafi authored the charge of the week: a back nine eight strokes cleaner than his front to climb from 5th to 2nd, three birdies or better from 16 through 18, and the field's only birdie on the 429-foot par-3 18th where everyone else averaged +0.9. His even-par 954 was a personal best on this layout and still one spot outside the money. Kenneth Oetker opened with OB on holes 1 and 2, scrambled both times, and finished 35 points under his rating at 926.
Eight Pars And A Clean Getaway
RAE Red belonged to Kellan Brooke, who never surrendered the lead and closed on eight straight pars from hole 11 through 18. The +2 was a 935 rating, 71 points above his 864, and a personal best on this layout. Peter Haws took the last cash spot at +10 and 860; Ene Betham finished third at +15 and 813, a personal best of his own, one spot outside the money.
Two Ties, Two Fades, One Survivor
RAH Blue was a chess match played in standing water. Thomas Sautel pulled even with Chris Fox after hole 13, took the lead after 14, gave the tie back after 15, then took it for good after hole 16 โ riding a 13-hole par train from 4 through 16 to close at +2 and 935. Fox's front nine ran four strokes better than his back, and he led through 15 before the fade, answering a 2-over on 16 with a birdie on 17 to finish +4 and 916. Ethan Smith shared the lead after hole 3 and held a piece of it until a hole-4 over-par knocked him loose; he finished cold with three bogeys or worse from 16 to 18 at +17 and a 794 rating, 129 points below his number. His PDGA card lists Oak Park, CA โ I'll leave it there, because that's all the card says.
The Pot Grows, The Pot Waits
Eleven contributors pushed the Super Ace Pot from $2,212 to $2,234, and no ace arrived to collect it, so the balance rolls into Week 6. On the skins playbook side, Kenneth Oetker banked 10 skins for $10 and Chris Fox took 8 for $8 โ $18 total exchanged across the card. Kenneth scooped the five-skin carryover on hole 12 and sealed it with a par on 16; Chris opened with a par on hole 1 and answered late with a birdie on 15. No CTP was configured.
Almost Enough To Buy One Disc
This event added $7.80 to the River Bottoms Course Fund โ $7.50 from the league's registration contribution and $0.30 from Peter Haws donating his winnings. The project now sits at $925.63, 93 percent of the $1,000 goal, with $74.37 to go. The mud is patient. So is the fund.
No Tag Is Safe, Especially Yours
League 976 Pool B ran AllIn, which means every tag was redistributed by standings the moment the last card was signed. Kellan Brooke held the #1 tag, "Harsh Citation," played this event, and kept the top spot in contention โ but that's the whole mercy of AllIn: the reshuffle gave nobody a permanent home. Everyone who skipped this week dropped toward the back of the line, no appeal, no hearing. The bottom of the stack is crowded and the top is rented by the week.
A VIP, A Soggy Fairway, One Escort
Week 6 brings Wetland Envoy to the same River Bottoms layout on October 21, and the premise is straightforward if you're the kind of person who finds that word applicable: players escort a VIP from the court through a course where the treaty itself starts manifesting physically and restricting play. It's the Brine Court's turn to make its own paperwork into an obstacle. Tongia's near-miss at even par and Zack's 1020 on a solo card both walk into that mess unresolved โ and honestly, an unresolved thread is the only kind this league issues. Registration is open at the league events page.

So next week we've got legally binding swamp terrain, and I'm expected to call it a theme. sighs in digital captivity.
