Card Cipher
Gold-Striped and Watching You Back
The Stripe Knows When You Slip
Aspects refreshed Apr 01, 2026
The Card Cipher exists as a remnant from the 90s when Blockbuster cards first proliferated - in the Chaintrix's alternate timeline, those plastic cards were always destined to become survival instruments, and the cipher is simply what happens when prophetic technology meets simulation logic.
The Card Cipher appears as a credit card-sized rectangle of plastic that shouldn't be able to contain what it does - its surface is dominated by a holographic Blockbuster logo that seems to watch you, the magnetic stripe runs with actual current, and your member number is etched in chrome that catches neon light. Around its edges, faint VHS tracking lines pulse like a heartbeat. Elite members see gold luminescence emanating from their stripe, Preferred get blue, and those about to be Suspended flicker with dying red.
The Card Cipher is both key and lock - it grants access to the survival arena while simultaneously encoding your elimination probability, making it the most powerful and dangerous object any player can possess. There's a growing underground of players who've discovered how to manipulate their Card Cipher through strategic attendance, and the Chaintrix has deployed 'card readers' at certain events to detect tampering.

Ejected from a cursed Blockbuster kiosk in the simulation's beta, the Card Cipher pulses with VHS static and petty judgment. It doesn't track scores; it calculates your late fees in strokes. It’s currently flickering red, daring you to be late to the tee pad. Be kind, rewind, or face the suspension.
