Rewind Protocol
Temporal Gatekeeper of Second Chances
Rewind or Be Erased
Aspects refreshed Feb 10, 2026
The Rewind Protocol emerged when the Chaintrix realized players would exploit the multiple-simulation structure to dodge consequences. Encoded into the fabric of every VHS tracking line, it was designed as the system's memory—the thing that remembers your failures even when you try to forget them, deciding whether you deserve another take or deserve to be permanently paused.
The Rewind Protocol manifests as reverse-tracking VHS distortion that crawls backward through simulation footage, accompanied by countdown timers rendered in Blockbuster-gold neon. When activated, it creates glitching pause-screen artifacts that trap players in liminal moments—neither fully in the simulation nor fully ejected. Within the green code rain, it appears as recursive loops of disc and chain symbols eating their own tails, a visual reminder that some rewinds lead back to the beginning while others lead to the void.
Functions as the temporal judiciary of the Chaintrix, reviewing each player's simulation history to determine if they've earned another chance or if their story ends here.

Born in the static between timelines, Rewind Protocol doesn’t forget. While players reroll their fate in the Chaintrix’s endless simulations, this tag remembers every shank, every choke, every "I swear I had it" moment. It hums with VHS ghosts and Blockbuster-damaged memories, spooling backward through your failures just to watch you flinch. You might reboot the round—but Rewind never does. Lucky for you, it’s picky about owners. Try hard enough, and maybe it’ll let you press play.
adjusts headset Welcome back to The Culling. Tonight: Kevin Harrison, league newcomer, mid-tier rating, zero aura of destiny—yet Tag #8 Rewind Protocol locked onto him like a corrupted save file. It doesn’t choose winners. It chooses repeat offenders. And somehow, Kevin’s the first soul it’s deemed… memorable enough to haunt. Spoiler: he double-bogeyed hole 3. Again. The tag says he’ll do it again. And again. And again. The system is now live.
