Rewind Protocol
Temporal Gatekeeper of Second Chances
Rewind or Be Erased
Aspects refreshed Feb 10, 2026
The Rewind Protocol emerged when the Chaintrix realized players would exploit the multiple-simulation structure to dodge consequences. Encoded into the fabric of every VHS tracking line, it was designed as the system's memory—the thing that remembers your failures even when you try to forget them, deciding whether you deserve another take or deserve to be permanently paused.
The Rewind Protocol manifests as reverse-tracking VHS distortion that crawls backward through simulation footage, accompanied by countdown timers rendered in Blockbuster-gold neon. When activated, it creates glitching pause-screen artifacts that trap players in liminal moments—neither fully in the simulation nor fully ejected. Within the green code rain, it appears as recursive loops of disc and chain symbols eating their own tails, a visual reminder that some rewinds lead back to the beginning while others lead to the void.
Functions as the temporal judiciary of the Chaintrix, reviewing each player's simulation history to determine if they've earned another chance or if their story ends here.
