Week 9 finale of Simulation #3 in The Chaintrix. Three students vanished here. Their discs came back wrong. Now you replace them. The forest is watching. The tape is almost full.
Welcome to the Haunting
*static crackles across the feed* This is The Flare Witch Project—a found-footage horror parody where your rating determines if you survive the simulation. Part of The Chaintrix's 90s movie marathon, this league treats disc golf like a survival documentary: miss an event, and the forest claims your ranking. The original students left behind footage of discs that flare back from impossible directions. Now you're the replacement cast.
Important: The Flare Witch Project
"What circles back will find you." (The Blair Witch Project, 1999) — Total: 44 - Roots Plot: Three film students hike into an old growth forest to document a local legend: a spectral player whose shots always flare back at the last second. They string glow lights, set trail cams, and toss a test disc… which returns from the wrong direction. The footage they leave behind becomes your survival guide.
Choose Your Survival Strategy
The simulation has divided challengers into two factions with opposing philosophies on how to survive the Flare Witch's domain.
- THE CLAIMANTS (FPO, RPA, RAH, RAD): Aggressive dominators who believe survival is earned through territorial conquest. They provoke the Witch directly, seeking to claim her power through ritual combat. They see the arena as a culling ground—only the strong deserve to hold ranking.
- THE ARCHIVISTS (FA2, RAE, RAF, RAG): Methodical documentarians who believe survival lies in understanding patterns. They map the arena, catalog spectral flight paths, and treat each event as a data-gathering expedition. Knowledge is their weapon against the forest's chaos.
Both factions end up throwing the same plastic at the same chains. The simulation appreciates the narrative tension.

The Final Tape: Week 9
We've reached "No Exit Nine"—the season finale. The course map is updating in real time. The last fairway isn't on any blueprint. 13 challengers survived last week with an average score of -2. No aces were recorded, meaning the Flare Witch kept her secrets for another week.
In the broader Chaintrix series standings, Brian Hansen leads RPA with 759 points over 50 events—that's surviving 50 simulations without getting erased. In RAE, Stephen Dunton (244 pts) just overtook Peter Haws (243 pts) by a single point. The tension is more dramatic than any found-footage jump scare.
Ace Pot & The Guarantee
The ace pot currently sits at $487.45. Here's how the guarantee works: ElevateUT Disc Golf (the league platform) guarantees a minimum of $50 for the ace pot. If contributions don't reach $50, they top it up. If they exceed $50, you keep the full amount.
Important Guarantee Details
The $50 minimum guarantee is provided by ElevateUT Disc Golf (the platform), NOT by the disc shop. The disc shop is a local retail partner only. If a top-up occurs, it's credited to the winner's Bonus Account (registration-only funds, not withdrawable to PayPal or disc shops). Early in the season, the pot may appear 'stuck' at $50 until contributions exceed the guarantee.
The Builders Behind the Simulation
While we're chasing spectral discs in a digital forest, real people are building actual courses. ElevateUT Disc Golf is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to growing the sport through increasing the quantity and quality of our venues and running events. They're doing the actual work while we play survival games in The Chaintrix.
Another Round Salt Lake City serves as our local retail partner—the place where you buy discs before the Flare Witch makes them disappear into the woods. Thanks to them for supporting our league.
