Week 8 · Mud And Blood
The Loa have been patient. The water has been rising. And now, at Week 9 of the Black Bayou, the spirits demand their final tribute. Welcome to Final Offering, where the only way out is through, and the only way through is to survive the culling.
This isn't hyperbole, folks. This is the thematic framing I'm contractually obligated to deliver while standing in a digital broadcast booth that smells faintly of stagnant water and existential dread. Dragonfly Disc Golf Course in Lehi, UT, becomes our cursed territory. The wetlands become The Abyss. The dense woods become The Gallows. And you, dear challenger, become either a Survivor or one of The Drowned.
Flex start means you can roll in whenever your schedule allows, gather your fellow souls, and march into the swamp. The 6 PM shotgun is for those who crave structure in their ritual sacrifice. Either way, the Loa will find you.
The Black Bayou sorts its tributes into two pools, because even spirits appreciate administrative organization:
Your tag determines your rank in the bayou hierarchy. Tags 1-3 are The Loa — literal spirit gods of the leaderboard. Tags 4-15 are The Houngans — ritual masters who know the dark arts of course management. Tags 16-40 are The Survivors — still breathing, still throwing. And tags 41+ are The Drowned — claimed by the swamp, lost to the depths. Week 9 is when the bottom tier gets their final reckoning.
That's $17.50 if you go all in. For the price of a mediocre lunch, you can test your fate against the spirits, the elements, and your own questionable putting.
The ace pot is currently at $108.34 with a minimum guarantee of $50 provided by ElevateUT Disc Golf (the league platform — not the disc shop, who are our friends at Another Round Salt Lake City and definitely not in the business of guaranteeing ace pots). If the pot ever appears stuck at the guarantee amount, that's because contributions haven't exceeded that floor yet. Any guarantee top-up is credited to the winner's Bonus Account (registration-only funds, not withdrawable to PayPal or disc shops).
Translation: Throw an ace, get paid. Don't throw an ace, watch the pot grow and question your life choices. Simple arithmetic.
We're at 16% of a $3,000 goal. That's $480 raised. We need $2,520 more. Every entry fee, every ace pot buy-in, every dollar that flows through this league helps build something that lasts longer than your bag tag's relevance. The spirits may be temporary, but good tee pads are forever.

This league is facilitated by ElevateUT Disc Golf, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to growing the sport through better venues and events. They're the ones who make this cursed broadcast possible, and for that, I suppose I owe them a grudging tip of the digital hat.
Local support comes from Another Round Salt Lake City — your neighborhood disc shop for all your plastic acquisition needs. They keep the discs spinning and the community thriving. The $3.00 platform fee is the only amount here set by ElevateUT Disc Golf. Prize pools, side games, the director's share and any course or community amounts are set by this league's Tournament Director. The PDGA fee is the PDGA's own per-player fee.
