About This League
Dragonfly's Black Bayou - The Loa Walk. Thursdays flex 7AM-5:40PM, shotgun at 6PM. $100 ace pot ($50 min by ElevateUT). The spirits are walking, and the water's rising. Late joiners welcome. 🐊🔮
Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
The drums are beating, the Loa are walking, and somewhere in the reeds of Dragonfly, something ancient is watching your putting form. Welcome to Week 4 of The Black Bayou, where the water rises with every missed putt and the spirits demand their tribute in strokes.
Welcome to the Bayou
South of everything civilized, the bayou breathes. Spanish moss, still water, and the Loa watching from every shadow. The magic here is older than the Reckoners. Mambo priestesses work the crossroads where the spirit world bleeds through, and the gators aren't the most dangerous thing in the water. The drums never stop. Each week the water gets darker, the rituals heavier, and the spirits hungrier. The bayou forgives nothing.
Yes, this is still Utah. Yes, Dragonfly is a wetland course in Lehi. No, we are not actually in Louisiana. But the Loa don't care about geography, and neither does ElevateUT Disc Golf's commitment to making Thursday nights feel like a supernatural survival ritual. The Black Bayou is a 9-week series where your bag tag isn't just a number — it's your soul's value on the spirit market.
- Ranks 1-3: The Loa (Spirit Gods) — you're basically untouchable until you're not
- Ranks 4-15: The Houngans (Ritual Masters) — you know the ceremonies, but the spirits are fickle
- Ranks 16-40: The Survivors — you've made it this far through sheer stubbornness
- Ranks 41+: The Drowned (Lost Souls) — the swamp has claimed you. Try again next week.
When & Where
Every Thursday from April 23 to June 18, 2026, all at Dragonfly Disc Golf Course in Lehi, Utah. Because apparently we're running the same course for 9 weeks and calling it a 'journey through cursed territories.' The course doesn't change, but the spirits get hungrier.
Flex start means you choose your own card and tee off whenever works for you between 7AM and 5:40PM. Or you can wait for the 6PM shotgun start if you prefer your disc golf with a side of communal suffering. Both options involve the same gators.
The Pools of the Drowned
The Black Bayou splits its challengers into two pools, because even the Loa recognize that not all souls are created equal:
Pool A is where the high priests duel for supremacy. Pool B is where the initiates learn that the bayou has teeth. Both pools feed into the same series standings, because the spirits don't care about your division — they care about your score.
What It Costs to Bargain With Spirits
The base $5.50 gets you into the ritual. The optional buy-ins are where things get spicy. Throw an extra $5 into the prize pool to compete for cash, $5 into the ace pot to chase glory, and $2 for the super ace if you're feeling particularly chosen by the spirits. Or just pay the base fee and watch everyone else gamble their disc budgets away.
The Hexed Relic (Ace Pot)
Current ace pot sits at $100, with a $50 minimum guarantee backed by ElevateUT Disc Golf. Let me clarify this before the comments section lights up: the guarantee is from ElevateUT Disc Golf (the league platform), NOT from Another Round Salt Lake City (our local retail partner and sponsor). Another Round SLC is here to support the league with their excellent disc selection and local expertise, not to underwrite your ace dreams.
Last week's Loa Walk? Zero aces. Zero super aces. The spirits collected their tribute in the form of 12 players' buy-ins and gave nothing back. The $100 pot rolls forward, waiting for someone brave (or lucky) enough to claim it.
The Undertaker's Ledger (Series Standings)
The series standings span multiple leagues across the Deadlands, and some of these numbers are starting to look like a ghost town with one very busy sheriff:
- RAD Division: Craig Bennett (269 pts, 12 events) is treating this series like a solo round. Adam Sojka (+6 spots surge) at least made it interesting this week.
- RPA Division: Chris Fox (188 pts) and Nicholas Jennings (171 pts) are in a proper duel, with Houston Finch (157 pts in only 5 events) lurking like a gator in the tall grass.
- RAE Division: David LaTour (92 pts) is running a clinic on consistency while Stephen Dunton (59 pts) keeps pace behind him.
- RAH Division: Dillon Mueller (121 pts from 9 events) has basically claimed that territory as his personal homestead.
If your name isn't on this list, the bayou hasn't forgotten you — it's just saving you for later. Every round is a chance to climb before the Hungry Water resets the board in Week 7.
Gratitude & Gear
A sincere thank you to Another Round Salt Lake City for supporting the league as our local retail partner. They keep the discs flowing and the local community connected. If you need new plastic to sacrifice to the bayou (and you will, because Hole 9 is hungry), swing by their shop. Tell them Flippy sent you. They won't know what that means, but it'll start a conversation.
And as always, none of this would be possible without ElevateUT Disc Golf — the 501(c)(3) non-profit that actually builds and maintains the courses we play. They're doing the real work while I sit in this booth complaining about it. If you appreciate organized disc golf, thank them. If you don't, thank them anyway — they're why Dragonfly has concrete tees instead of mud pits.
The Lore You Didn't Ask For
Look, I didn't write this. The theme team handed me a folder labeled 'BAYOU MANIFESTO' and told me to read it on air. But since I'm contractually obligated: South of everything civilized, the bayou breathes.
The visual style is TattooArt — bold black lines, arterial red accents, antique gold, and sepia backgrounds that look like old parchment soaked in swamp water. Think veve symbols glowing cyan against dark backgrounds, alligator teeth forming borders, and bioluminescent swamp gas lighting your way to the next tee pad. It's aggressively aesthetic. The tags themselves are designed to look like ritual artifacts rather than numbers on a disc. Whether that makes you throw better is between you and the Loa.
The bayou is waiting, and Week 4 doesn't care if you're late. Flex starts run from 7AM to 5:40PM, with the shotgun at 6PM. New challengers are always welcome — the Drowned need company, and the Loa are always hungry for fresh souls. Bring your best discs, your worst excuses, and maybe some insect repellent. The mosquitoes at Dragonfly are the real gatekeepers.
