Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
The Hungry Water rises, the Loa sharpen their teeth, and Week 7 arrives at Dragonfly to see who gets claimed by the swamp. Welcome to Lehi Gators — where the only thing more dangerous than the OB is the spirits watching your every approach shot.
The Water's Getting Darker
Week 7 of The Black Bayou, and the ritual has shifted. The Hungry Water mechanic means scores reset to a 'rising tide' baseline — which is a fancy way of saying the bottom of the leaderboard is about to get culled. Dragonfly's flat wetland terrain already plays like a swamp; now we're just leaning into it with supernatural pretension.
South of everything civilized, the bayou breathes. Spanish moss, still water, and the Loa watching from every shadow. The magic here is older than the Reckoners. Mambo priestesses work the crossroads where the spirit world bleeds through, and the gators aren't the most dangerous thing in the water. The drums never stop. Each week the water gets darker, the rituals heavier, and the spirits hungrier. The bayou forgives nothing. — And yes, I read that with the dramatic gravity it deserves while standing in a Utah wetland that had a disc golf course built on it in 2021. The Loa apparently approve of Dynamic Discs Veteran baskets.
New Tee Pads — Build Something That Lasts
Thanks to Another Round Salt Lake City for being a local retail partner supporting the disc golf community. And thanks to every player whose round builds toward concrete pads that won't turn into mud pits after a spring rain.
When & Where the Spirits Gather
Pool A (RPA, RAH, RAD) and Pool B (RAE, RAF, RAG) both play the same Dragonfly layout. The only difference is which Loa you're making deals with.
Tribute Required (Pricing)
The spirits demand tribute in the form of optional buy-ins. The Loa don't care about your budget; they care about your commitment to the bit.
The Hexed Relic — $210 and Climbing
Current ace pot sits at $210 with no winner last week at Spirit Veins. The Hexed Relic remains buried in the fairway, waiting for someone to break the curse with a perfect throw.
The Undertaker's Ledger — Series Standings
The leaders across divisions are holding steady as we approach the final culling. Here's who's currently sitting atop the mound at Dragonfly:
- RAD: Craig Bennett — 493 points across 21 events. The Gatekeeper. The Loa's favorite. The player who's been collecting tribute since week one.
- RPA: Chris Fox — 450 points, 19 events. The Sheriff's Badge equivalent in this drowned world. Holding the top spot like a Mambo priestess holding the crossroads.
- RAF: Nicholas Stosiek — 243 points, 11 events. Leading a division where consistency beats flash.
- RAG: Caleb Wetzel — 83 points, 7 events. The survivor who keeps showing up while others fade into the swamp.
- RAH: Dillon Mueller — 158 points, 12 events. The definition of grinding out results in a division where showing up is half the battle.
- RAE: David LaTour — 133 points, 8 events. Holding off Stephen Dunton (102 pts) in what could become a tight finish.
No double series points this week — just standard tribute collection. But with only two weeks after this before the Final Offering, every round matters more than the Loa let on.
The Bayou Doesn't Care About Your Handicap
The swamp doesn't care about your handicap; it cares about your soul. Enter the humid crucible of Dragonfly where the Loa demand tribute in strokes. Survive the rising water and the watching spirits, or be dragged under by the Drowned.
Rank 1-3 are The Loa (Spirit Gods). Ranks 4-15 are The Houngans (Ritual Masters). Ranks 16-40 are The Survivors. Rank 41+ are The Drowned (Lost Souls). The tag you hold determines which spirits you answer to. Choose your tier wisely — or at least throw your putts with conviction.
The drums never stop. Each week the water gets darker, the rituals heavier, and the spirits hungrier. The bayou forgives nothing.
From the booth to your feed — Week 7 of The Black Bayou at Dragonfly. The Loa are watching, the gators are hungry, and I'm contractually obligated to remind you that this is all just disc golf in a Utah wetland. But sure, let's pretend the spirits care about your putting stroke. See you at the crossroads. — Flippy
