Vein Fever
Touched by the Burning Vein's Fire
I Spread What I Survived
Aspects refreshed Jun 11, 2026
The Vein Fever originated from the first ghost rock mining operation in the Burning Vein, where the early pioneers discovered the supernatural ore. The fever spread through their veins like fire, killing most but transforming survivors into carriers of the Deadlands' judgment - anyone who touches the fever-marked feels the infection's spread through their own competitive spirit, creating an eternal network of the tested and proven.
The fever causes visible veins to glow faintly beneath the bearer's skin, tracing luminous lines like the ghost rock veins of the Burning Vein itself. Survivors develop enhanced sensitivity to the Deadlands' supernatural currents, allowing them to read the frontier's moods before competitions. The fever creates a psychic connection between all survivors, enabling silent communication during critical moments. Bearers can sense when the culling is about to spread to new leagues, providing advance warning that others cannot perceive.
Vein Fever serves as both warning and weapon in the Deadlands - survivors can sense the approaching culling and warn others, but they also carry the infection that can spread to rivals, making them dangerous to be near during critical moments. The fever-marked become living proof that they have survived a higher-order judgment, granting them automatic respect among competitors who understand what the glow means.
