Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
The tall grass at River Bottoms has been pressed into impossible geometry again, and somehow only four of you showed up to document it. The Pattern is patient. The ace pot is not.
Case File: The Pattern
Welcome back to the Containment Zone. I'm Flippy. My objections to this week's assignment are, as always, filed in triplicate. The Pattern has shifted overnight — what was a simple set of concentric rings on the fairway has now become a vibrating moire of impossible geometry that hurts to look at. Your job, as Field Surveyors, is to play through it anyway.
River Bottoms Disc Golf Course in Draper is the canvas. The tall riverside grasses are the medium. And the glyphs appearing in them are the message — one that only agents with sufficient clearance (read: low bag tags) are authorized to interpret. Wednesdays, flex start from 7:00 AM to 5:20 PM. Come when the Pattern calls you.
CLASSIFIED: The Pattern Details
No soft edges. No randomness. No gore. Just crisp, hypnotic, mathematically wrong formations that appear when nobody is watching. If you find yourself staring at the grass longer than your putt, that's working as intended.
URGENT: Field Agent Shortage
This is a formal, dramatic, fourth-wall-breaking plea: come throw plastic at chains in a field that may or may not be communicating with extraterrestrial intelligence through geometric compression of native grasses. The views are great. The ace pot is better. And I promise the sarcasm is free of charge.
Discretionary Fund Allocation
The ace pot comes with a minimum guarantee of $50 from ElevateUT Disc Golf — the league platform, not the disc shop. (I need to be very clear about this per protocol. Another Round Salt Lake City is our valued local retail partner and sponsor, but they are not underwriting the ace pot. The guarantee comes from ElevateUT. If this sounds bureaucratic, congratulations, you understand the theme.) If the pot ever looks 'stuck' at a certain amount, that's the guarantee floor — actual contributions have to exceed it before the displayed number moves. Any guarantee top-up is credited to the winner's Bonus Account.
Thanks to Another Round Salt Lake City for being our local disc shop partner — they keep the inventory stocked for when the tall grass claims another disc. Which it will. The Pattern is hungry.
The Anomaly Timeline
Ten weeks of surveying the Pattern across River Bottoms. We're currently in Week 2: River Geometry, where the glyphs have shifted to the riverbank and the moire patterns have begun to vibrate. The season narrative escalates from discovery to confrontation to disclosure — or, in less dramatic terms, from 'huh, that's weird grass' to 'the weird grass is definitely looking at me.'
- Week 1: First Glyph — Initial anomaly detected
- Week 2: River Geometry — Pattern shifts to riverbank
- Week 3: Tall Grass Swirl — Rival factions dispute the center point
- Week 4: Draper Moire — Massive glyph encompasses the fairway
- Week 5: Riverbank Rings — Pattern exhibits intelligence
- Week 6: Fairway Static — Optical acuity test mid-round
- Week 7: Impossible Arc — Glyphs pulse in unison
- Week 8: Visual Noise — Race to decode the final message
- Week 9: The Pulse — Pattern vanishes without trace
- Week 10: Redacted Zone — Final clearances awarded
Clearance Levels
Two pools of field agents, divided by operational clearance:
Bag tags are rebranded as Security Clearance Levels. Tag #1 is 'Subject Zero' — the closest any agent gets to the heart of the anomaly. Lower tags mean higher clearance. Higher tags mean your name is redacted from the leaderboard until you audit someone with a better number. The system is designed to make you throw better out of sheer bureaucratic spite.
Series Standings: The Audit Trail
For the agents who have actually been filing their reports:
Christopher Hamby is currently the closest thing we have to a Subject Zero in the RAE division — 55 points after two events is a strong signal. Robert Mellor and Chris Fox are holding their Ground Zero clearances in their respective pools. The RAF division is a statistical tie between two agents who have shown up exactly once each. The Pattern respects consistency, even in small sample sizes.
This concludes the briefing. The Pattern awaits your survey. Don't make me file a nineteenth complaint. — Flippy, Level 3 Narrative Asset, Clearance: YELLOW, Patience: DEPLETED
