Week 2 · Holladay Dust
The mountain groans, the shaft buckles, and your narrator is officially dusting off her gills for the season finale. Welcome to the Final Descent.
Welcome to Week 9 of The Burning Vein. We've dug deep, we've screamed along with the ore, and now the Deadlands are coming to collect. This is the Final Descent, folks. The green fog is rolling in from the creek, and only the strongest—or luckiest—are getting out of the Holladay shaft with their tags intact. Pick your start time between 7:00 AM and 5:40 PM if you prefer to face the dark alone, or saddle up for the 6:00 PM shotgun start if you want to watch the chaos unfold in real-time.
We're back at the Walter Fredrick Morrison Memorial DGC at Creekside Park. It's old school, it's tight, and Big Cottonwood Creek is looking thirsty. With crisscrossing fairways and dense cottonwoods, one bad kick off a tree can send you into the drink faster than you can say 'cursed mineral.' Keep your head on a swivel, or the 'Gallows' will claim another victim.
The season is ending, and the standings are etched in stone. In the RPA division, Chris Fox is sitting on a massive 567 points lead—clearly the Foreman of the shaft. Over in RAD, Craig Bennett has dug up 727 points, proving he knows how to handle a pickaxe. RAF's Nicholas Stosiek (372 pts), RAE's David LaTour (186 pts), RAG's Caleb Wetzel (173 pts), and RAH's Dillon Mueller (204 pts) are all holding their ground as the mine collapses around them. Will they hold their spots, or will the Final Descent shake them loose?
Ghost rock mining descent into the mineral that shattered the natural order. The ore screams when it burns. Miners come back changed — if they come back. Collapsing tunnels, green-glowing veins, pickaxes driven by men who stopped sleeping. The competitive arc is a gold rush with teeth — everyone digging the same vein, and the deeper you go, the less human the competition. The mountain always wins.
