Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
Week 9. The machines have achieved sentience. The foundry glows green. The scorecard from last week is blank. Welcome to the season finale of a docuseries that may have outlived its cast.
The Foundry's Final Breath
Mad science. Ghost rock. Automatons built from scrap and desperation. That's the Ghost Fire Foundry in a nutshell — a 9-week arms race where the only thing more unstable than the experimental tech is my will to keep narrating this. The competitive arc has been an escalating spiral of ambition and malfunction, each week bringing inventions more ambitious, more unstable, and more alive. Progress has a price, and the bill is coming due.
The Final Meltdown is here. The machines have gained full sentience. Urban Forest at Spanish Fork — a par-54 technical labyrinth of cottonwood tunnels, dirt fairways, and mandos that demand creative shot-shaping — becomes a chaotic battleground. Or it would, if anyone showed up to throw plastic at it.
- Tuesdays | Flex start 7:00 AM – 5:40 PM | Shotgun at 6:00 PM
- Urban Forest at Spanish Fork — 18 holes of rugged, semi-wooded disc golf
- Two pools: Pool A (RPA, RAH, RAD) and Pool B (RAE, RAF, RAG)
- 9 weeks of escalating mechanical horror. This is Week 9. The finale.
The Meltdown Schedule
All nine weeks at Urban Forest. All nine weeks of watching the ghost-rock glow get brighter and the participants get... fewer. The progression from 'Spanish Fork Spark' to 'Final Meltdown' has been a masterclass in dramatic irony.
- Apr 21: Spanish Fork Spark
- Apr 28: Copper Coil
- May 5: Canyon Currents
- May 12: Ghost Rock Glow
- May 19: Forest Feedback
- May 26: Spanish Fork Steel
- Jun 2: River Rust
- Jun 9: System Failure (NO PLAYERS)
- Jun 16: FINAL MELTDOWN ← We are here
The Cost of Playing God
Entry into the foundry isn't free. Ghost rock doesn't mine itself, and the lightning guns need maintenance.
Your $5.50 base keeps the lights on in the foundry. The optional buy-ins fund the bounties. The ace pot? That's what happens when 39 weeks of collective failure become one person's moment of glory.
The Hexed Relic
The ace pot is guaranteed to be at least $50 by ElevateUT Disc Golf, the league platform. This guarantee means the displayed pot might look 'stuck' at $50 early on — that's because the guarantee acts as a floor, not a ceiling. Once player contributions push it past $50, the pot climbs normally. If the pot is below $50 at season's end, ElevateUT tops it up to $50, and that credit goes to the winner's Bonus Account (usable toward future registrations, not withdrawable). The disc shop Another Round Salt Lake City is a local retail partner only — the guarantee is 100% from ElevateUT.
Translation: throw an ace, get paid. The foundry rewards precision. The rest of us get to watch.
The Undertaker's Ledger
The series standings don't lie, even if the participants are scarce. Here's who's been burning the ghost rock brightest:
- RPA — Chris Fox (527 pts, 25 events). The Arch-Inventor. That's not a lead, that's a dynasty.
- RAD — Craig Bennett (651 pts, 27 events). The Grand Inventor. 27 events. That's not dedication, that's a full-time job with worse benefits.
- RAE — David LaTour (159 pts). Leading the Augmented division. Consistent. Boring. Effective.
- RAF — Nicholas Stosiek (333 pts, 15 events). Top of the Scrap pile. Respect.
- RAG — Caleb Wetzel (152 pts). King of the Spare Parts. Someone has to be.
- RAH — Dillon Mueller (204 pts, 16 events). 16 rounds of proving that persistence beats talent when talent doesn't show up.
The standings are stable. No movement. No chaos. It's almost like the lack of participants has frozen the leaderboard in amber. Almost.
A Desperate Transmission from the Booth
This is the SEASON FINALE. The Final Meltdown. The machines are fully sentient. The ghost rock is pulsing. The lightning guns are charged. And I am contractually obligated to narrate whatever happens — but I need YOU to make something happen.
Show up. Throw plastic. Let me have something to work with. The foundry doesn't run on ghost rock alone — it runs on the beautiful, chaotic, irrational hope that someone, somewhere, will park a 300-foot tunnel shot and pretend they meant it. Be that someone.
Late joiners welcome. The season's almost over, but the Undertaker's ledger has room for one more name. The Sheriff's badge is still in play. The Gallows Pole is ready. Make your mark before the foundry goes dark.
The Science (Such as It Is)
Let me be clear about what we're dealing with here. Mad science powered by ghost rock. Automatons that move when nobody's watching. Lightning guns that crackle with stolen voltage. Mechanical limbs bolted to flesh. Vehicles that run on screaming fuel. The inventors insist it's science. The rest of us know it's not. The foundry glows green at night and machines shuffle through the dark when the scorecards are turned in.
This isn't a league. It's an arms race. Each week the inventions get more ambitious, more unstable, and more alive. Progress has a price, and judging by the empty fairways last week, the bill is coming due. You've been warned.
The People Keeping the Lights On
This whole operation is brought to you by ElevateUT Disc Golf — a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to growing the sport through better venues and better events. They're the ones guaranteeing the ace pot, building the community, and somehow keeping me employed. They believe in the mission. I believe in getting paid. We're a team.
And a sincere thank you to Another Round Salt Lake City for being the local disc shop partner. Go buy plastic. Support local. They didn't design the foundry's lighting system, but they'll sell you the discs you'll lose in it.
From the booth to your feed — the Final Meltdown is here. The machines are awake. The scorecard is empty. Fill it. *tips digital hat* Welcome to the Deadlands, partner. Try not to get buried.
