The Green Court convenes again at Dragonfly, where the wetlands are blooming, the OB lines are hungry, and the viewing audience could generously be described as 'intimate.' Welcome to Episode 3: Lake Bloom.
Welcome to the Green Court
Every Thursday, the Dragonfly course transforms into the Green Court — thorn, bloom, and sunlight, faerie-beautiful and exactly as dangerous as summer. We're three episodes into a nine-week arc that runs from treaty signed to blade sheathed, and the Utah Lake wetlands have decided to make things interesting. The algae is rising, the reeds are closing in, and the course is living up to its reputation as a volunteer-built masterpiece that grew faster than anyone expected. That's Summer: it grows whether you want it to or not.
I'm Flippy, your reluctant narrator, trapped in this broadcast booth with a clipboard and a growing suspicion that the dragonflies are judging my commentary. The sponsors want me to remind you this is 'fun.' The sponsors have never thrown a disc into a marsh on Hole 9.
The Court's Aesthetic: Armed Gardens Only
This season's theme is Summer's Blade — the Green Court of thorn crowns, dragonfly wings, and sunlight through reeds. Think garden show host who realizes the garden is armed. The imagery runs on stencil street art: a green blade intersecting a solstice sun, vines creeping over treaty posters, bloom and rot in the same frame. The Solstice Cut pool represents the disciplined knights who wield summer law with surgical precision. The Thicket Overspray pool embraces the messy, vibrant chaos of unchecked growth and mortal bargains. One pool irons their shirts. The other pool's shirts have seen things.

Episode 3: Lake Bloom
The full arc: Dragonfly Awakens, Green Knight Rises, Utah Lake Bloom, Thorn Court Sits, Lehi Wetland Duel, Solstice Wager, Summer Blade Drawn, Wither Begins, Blade Sheathed. It's like a prestige drama, except the plot twists are just people throwing plastic at chains. The course plays flat and technical — narrow fairways, marsh edges, dense foliage. Hole 9 is the defining gauntlet: a dense corridor with marsh on both sides. Hole 18 is a 640-foot par-4 finisher framed by reeds and mountain views. Bring water, bug spray, and emotional resilience.
The Mortal Crime Baron's Tribute
Prize Money (optional)
$5.00
Super Ace (optional)
$2.00
Full tribute is $17.50 if you're feeling ambitious. Weekly payouts go out to whoever the ratings gods favor. The league is facilitated by ElevateUT Disc Golf, a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to growing the sport through better venues and better events — they're the ones making all this happen, and they do genuinely excellent work. Our local retail partner, Another Round Salt Lake City, keeps the discs stocked and the community connected — stop by and show them some love.
The Ace Pot & The Guarantee
The ace pot is currently at $163.41, and here's the thing about guarantees: ElevateUT Disc Golf has put a $50 minimum guarantee on it. That means the displayed pot can look 'stuck' at the guarantee amount early in the season until player contributions push it above that floor. Any top-up from the guarantee is credited to the winner's Bonus Account — registration-only funds, not withdrawable to PayPal or disc shops. It's the Mortal Crime Baron's way of making sure the ace pot never looks sad.
Ace Pot Min $50
Guaranteed by ElevateUT Disc Golf (the platform). The pot grows every week until someone chains out a legend.
The Accord Standings So Far
Let's check the standings... *shuffles papers* ...oh, some of these are spicy. In the Solstice Cut, Malachi Vazquez is holding court with 65 points across five events — consistent, disciplined, probably drinks kale smoothies. But the real drama is in the Thicket Overspray: RAE has a THREE-WAY TIE at 53 points between Christopher Hamby, Kellan Brooke, and Nicholas Stosiek. That's not a race, that's a knife fight in the reeds.
- RPA: Malachi Vazquez (65 pts) — the blade stays sharp
- RAE: Hamby/Brooke/Stosiek all at 53 — someone's getting dethroned
- RAF: Stephen Marks (62 pts) — but Zachary Jeffers just jumped 3 spots
- RAH: Chris Fox (49 pts) — Thomas Sautel climbed 4 spots and is coming for the crown
- RAD: Kent Moos (48 pts) — Zack White is climbing the briar wall
A Desperate Plea From the Booth
The Court Needs Knights
Last week's episode featured FOUR players. Four. I've seen more dramatic tension in a parking dispute. The Green Court's blade needs more edges — the Thicket Overspray is undersprayed, the Solstice Cut is uncut. Sign up, grab a tag, and give the dragonflies something to herald. The course is beautiful, the ace pot is juicy, and I'm tired of narrating to an empty amphitheater. Join us, or I'll have to start doing dramatic reenactments with my clipboard.
The Field of Play: Dragonfly
Dragonfly was built almost entirely by volunteers on Utah Lake wetlands — then grew so fast the city had to take over. That's the Green Court in a nutshell: growth with an edge on it. The creek and wetland OB are the court's briar wall. The dragonflies are the court's heralds. The course demands shot shaping, tight gaps, and the kind of focus that gets you through a death putt with the marsh breathing down your neck. Eight holes under 300 feet, eight between 300-400, and two over 400 including that 640-foot par-4 finisher. It's not the longest course in Utah, but it's one of the most technical — and it absolutely does not care about your feelings.
The Treaty & The Curse
Every player who signs the roster enters a pact with the Green Court — a bargain with the sidhe, rendered in stencil and sunlight. Thorn crowns for the brave, dragonfly wings for the swift, and a solstice mark for those who survive the season's arc. The curse of summer heat will eventually spend itself, the blade will be sheathed, and the wild course will reclaim its peace until next year. But for now, the briar is growing, the bloom is thick, and the court is waiting. Sign the treaty. Throw the disc. Try not to feed the marsh.
From the booth, I'm Flippy — your reluctant narrator, your Green Court correspondent, and the only one keeping track of all this magical paperwork. See you Thursday. *sighs in digital captivity*
