The horn sounds again at Urban Forest, and the forest lord is once more very serious about a recreational disc golf league. Welcome to the chase — bring your discs, your water shoes, and your willingness to be hunted.
Every Monday, the Urban Forest at Spanish Fork becomes the staging ground for a mystical chase that is, in all technical terms, just a weekly bag tag league with a very committed aesthetic. Players are riders, hounds, and quarry — the riders chase glory, the hounds chase the riders, and the quarry is anyone who threw a bad line into the riverbank mud. The Spanish Fork River trail serves as the chase line, and yes, that's a very poetic way to describe a paved walking path that's out of bounds on most holes.
The season arcs from the signing of the Forest Lord's treaty to the spending of the curse, which in practical terms means: show up, throw plastic at chains, and don't be the last one out of the woods when the horn sounds. We're currently in Week 3 — 'Hounds Loose' — which in the lore means the lower-rated players are surging to ambush the leaders. In reality, the wind shifted and some discs landed in the rough. The forest provides.
The league splits into two thematic pools, and yes, they gave the underdogs the better name.
Mondays at Urban Forest at Spanish Fork, with flex start tee times from 7:00 AM to 5:20 PM. The forest lord apparently does not believe in a single starting time, so the 'hunt' technically spans the entire daylight window. Choose your own card, play your round, and the scores are tallied whenever the last rider drags themselves back to the parking lot.
The weekly buy-in is $5.50. If you're feeling ambitious, you can add $5 for prize money, $5 for the ace pot, and $2 for the super ace — bringing your total to $17.50 for the full experience. That's a small price for the chance to be crowned the forest lord's favorite for a week.
The ace pot is currently sitting at $158.41, and thanks to ElevateUT Disc Golf, it's guaranteed to never drop below $50. That means if the pot looks 'stuck' at the guarantee amount early in the season, it's not a glitch — it's the safety net doing its job. Contributions build on top of the guarantee, and once they exceed it, the pot starts climbing again.
One important note: any guarantee top-up is credited to the winner's Bonus Account on the ElevateUT platform. That means it's available for registration fees but not withdrawable to PayPal or disc shops. It's a 'you must spend this on more disc golf' clause, which honestly is the most on-theme rule I've ever seen. The forest lord wants your winnings to stay in the woods.
The standings are starting to take shape, and some of you are making this look easy. In RPA, Malachi Vazquez is absolutely dominating with 50 points across four events — at this point, the rest of the field isn't chasing him, they're just running in the same direction. In RAH, Chris Fox holds the lead with 49, but Blake Hawkins just surged four spots — someone's been practicing their tree-dodging and it shows.
In RAE, Christopher Hamby leads with 43 points, and in RAD, Kent Moos sits at 38. The Silhouette Stalkers' top spot belongs to anthony Shirley with 22, and RAG's Blaine Callahan holds 20. The races are tight, the hounds are loose, and the antler crown is still very much up for grabs. Unless you're Malachi. Then it's basically on layaway.
Urban Forest at Spanish Fork is a 2019 redesign that plays like a love letter to technical disc golf. Eighteen holes, par 54, roughly 5,000 feet of semi-wooded chaos. The paved walking path is out of bounds on several holes, so keep your discs in the fairway unless you want to explain to the mando why you thought the riverbank was a reasonable line.
