The Council's session is drawing to a close, and the Morrison Circle is the final proving ground before the Recess. Week 7 of 9, and the sandstone monument is watching to see whose throws are pure enough to pass judgment.
The Tribunal Convenes
Welcome back to the booth, where the Grey Cloak Wardens are deep into their seasonal session at Creekside Park. This is the oldest permanent course in the state, laid out in 1982 by the father of the modern game, and the sandstone monument to the inventor of the disc stands as the Council's seat. Old power, old rules, and a creek that has filed more disc disappearance reports than the Jordan River Clerk has paperwork.
This week is the Morrison Circle, the tightest section of the course where 'only the purest throws survive.' Translation: don't shank it into the water. The chalk circles have been redrawn, the brass lanterns lit, and the Wardens are eyeing each other for any sign of unsanctioned magic. It's all very dramatic for a bunch of people throwing plastic at chains, but I'm just the narrator, so I'll file my observations accordingly.
A Permanent Victory
Protective Netting: FUNDED!
We did it! The goal for Protective Netting at Creekside has been reached, 100% funded by this community. Every round you've played, every $5.50 tribute to the Mortal Crime Baron, has contributed to something that will outlast this season. No ace pot can claim that. This is a permanent improvement to the course, a legacy that will catch errant discs and spare the creek from more paperwork. Genuinely, even for a jaded axolotl in a booth, this is the good stuff.
The Mortal Tribute
Ace Pot Contribution
$5.00
Super Ace Contribution
$2.00
Total Weekly Investment
$12.50
A small price for a chance at glory, a larger price if you're the one who has to retrieve a disc from the Russian olive bushes. The Mortal Crime Baron handles the economics so the supernatural factions don't have to get their hands dirty. Consider it a tithe to the game itself.
The Ace Pot Awaits
The current ace pot stands at a healthy $538.41, and it's growing every week. No aces were recorded last week, which means the pot is getting fatter and the tension is getting thicker. Someone's due.
Note: If the pot ever looks 'stuck' at a certain amount, that's because ElevateUT Disc Golf, our league platform, guarantees a minimum $50 payout. The displayed pot can sit at the guarantee until contributions exceed it. And if the guarantee kicks in, the top-up is credited to the winner's Bonus Account—registration-only, not withdrawable to PayPal or the disc shop. It's all very bureaucratic, which fits the theme perfectly.
When the Council Meets
Time
Flex start, tee times 7:00 AM – 5:20 PM
Location
Creekside Park, Salt Lake City
Choose your own card and your own start time. It's a 'flex start' because the Council knows its Wardens have day jobs. The season runs through November 9th, and the final decrees are already being drafted.
Two Factions, One Course
The league is split into two philosophical camps. The Steel Inquisition (RPA, RAH, RAD) is the rigid arm of the Council, enforcing the Seven Laws with cold precision. They view every stroke as a motion that must be filed correctly. The Chalk Dissent (RAE, RAF, RAG) is the chaotic energy of the creek corridor, the Accused and the unfiled motions, using ephemeral chalk magic to defy the rigid order. One side files motions, the other spray-paints them. Both are equally likely to blame a bad round on a curse from a rival faction.
The Standing of the Wardens
As we head into the final stretch, the standings are taking shape. Malachi Vazquez leads the RPA division with 315 points, a commanding position that suggests either exceptional skill or a very good lawyer. Chris Fox tops RAH with 344 points, and Kent Moos holds RAD at 219.
But the real story is the movers. Skyler Kunz jumped two spots in RAD, and Stephen Dunton did the same in RAE. Chris Norman is creeping up in RPA. These are the Wardens who are making their move before the Council Recess. If you're not in the top 5, the door's still open, but the trial is reaching its verdict.
Know Your Lore
- The Wardens enforce the Seven Laws of Magic. Grey cloaks, plain steel, no sense of humor about warlocks.
- The creek corridor is the tribunal floor. The tight closers are where sentences are carried out.
- The sandstone monument is the Council's seat—old power, old rules, a stone that remembers.
- Oath-marks, chalk circles, and brass lanterns mark the territory of the Grey Cloak.
- If you break a rule, expect a penalty stroke and a very dry, procedural lecture about it.
A Word for the Late
Week 7 of 9
Yes, the season is deep. No, it's not too late to sign the Accords. The Council may be in its final session, but there's still room on the docket for new Wardens and the Accused. Come throw some plastic, file some motions, and see if you can't bend a Law or two before the Recess. The chalk circles are drawn, and there's always room for one more name in the margins.
Gratitude & Acknowledgements
This league runs because of the community. A sincere thank you to ElevateUT Disc Golf, our 501(c)(3) non-profit facilitator, for growing the sport through quality venues and events—and for guaranteeing that ace pot. Thanks also to Another Round Salt Lake City for supporting local disc golf as our retail partner. And to FL!PT Leagues for providing the unnecessarily dramatic platform that makes all this possible. Now go throw a disc.
The Council is still in session. The sandstone remembers. See you at Creekside.
