Week 5 · Warlock Trial
The league becomes a courtroom. Every throw is examined. The accused plays under intense scrutiny, while the prosecution (the card behind them) documents every foot fault and violation.
Week 6. The Sixth Law is bending, the chalk circles are smudging, and the Wardens are pretending they didn't see that foot fault. Welcome to the tribunal floor, where the only thing more flexible than the rules is your putting form.
The Council convened at the sandstone monument back in September, and somehow we're still rolling tape. Week 6 of 9, and the docket reads 'Law Bent' — which is court-speak for 'the rules are being stretched like a warm putter plastic and nobody wants to file the paperwork.' The Wardens of Creekside are enforcing the Seven Laws with their usual bureaucratic precision, which is to say: inconsistently, and with great confidence.
Twenty-three Wardens, apprentices, and the occasional accused showed up for the Warlock Trial last week, averaging exactly even par across the tribunal floor. No aces, no super aces, no dramatic confessions. The prosecution's case remains circumstantial, but the tension is palpable — you can feel it in the way players are gripping their staffs (discs) a little tighter on the creek corridor.
This is what ElevateUT Disc Golf is about — a 501(c)(3) non-profit growing the sport through better venues and better events. The netting is a permanent upgrade to the oldest course in the state, a monument to the game that Steady Ed Headrick himself laid out in 1982. You're not just throwing plastic at metal; you're investing in the sandstone. That's the good kind of binding magic.
The ace pot sits at a very healthy $458.41, well above the $50 minimum guarantee provided by ElevateUT Disc Golf. For the record: if the pot ever dips below that floor, ElevateUT tops it up to $50, and the guarantee is credited to the winner's Bonus Account (registration-only, not withdrawable to PayPal or the disc shop). The pot isn't stuck — it's just resting comfortably above the safety line. Unlike your approach shot on 14.
Shoutout to Another Round Salt Lake City, our local retail partner, for keeping the Wardens armed with fresh plastic. Support them, and they'll support your habit.
Every Monday at Creekside Park, with a choose-your-own-card flex start from 7:00 AM to 5:20 PM. That's right — you can file your oath before breakfast or after work, whichever suits your brand of lawlessness. The course is the Walter Fredrick Morrison Memorial, dedicated to the man who invented the Frisbee, which means you're playing on hallowed ground whether you believe in the magic or not.
The league splits into two philosophical camps. The Steel Inquisition (RPA, RAH, RAD) enforces the Seven Laws with cold precision — every stroke is a motion, every bogey a judgment rendered. The Chalk Dissent (RAE, RAF, RAG) embodies the chaotic energy of the creek corridor, spray-painting mandalas and filing motions in chalk that washes away with the next rain. One side carries the staff; the other side throws it.
Week 6 is when the Sixth Law gets creative. Loopholes are being exploited, chalk circles are smudged, and the lantern light flickers ambiguously over the scorecards. If you've been waiting for the perfect moment to join a league mid-season, congratulations — the rules are flexible enough to accommodate you. The Council accepts late filings. Always has, always will.
Let's consult the docket. In the Steel Inquisition, Malachi Vazquez holds the RPA lead with 277 points across 19 events — the most devoted Warden on the roster, or possibly just someone who lost their car keys at Creekside and never left. Chris Fox anchors RAH with 282 points over 17 events, and Kent Moos commands RAD with 175. These are the pillars of the tribunal.
Over in the Chalk Dissent, Kellan Brooke is running RAE with 282 points, but the real story is William Fetzer in RAF, who jumped TWO positions this week. That's the kind of upward mobility that gets noticed by the Council — and by the prosecution. Keep an eye on the chalk-drawn sigils; someone's been practicing.
Points matter. Tags matter. The Accords are signed, the seals are assigned, and every throw is a statement of territorial intent. Or, you know, it's a weekly league with bag tags. Same energy.
This is the Wardens' league: enforcers of the Seven Laws of Magic, grey cloaks, plain steel, and absolutely no sense of humor about warlocks. Players are Wardens, apprentices, and the accused, all sworn to a Council that predates the city. The creek corridor is the tribunal floor; the tight closers are where sentences are carried out. The sandstone monument remembers everything — including that time you missed a three-footer on 18.
The vocabulary is simple: warden, oath, law, tribunal, circle, sigil, staff, cloak. The imagery is grey cloaks, chalk circles in the parking lot, and brass lanterns that never seem to run out of oil. The tone is dry, procedural, and quietly delighted when a Warden breaks the rules they're sworn to enforce. *sighs in digital captivity* — but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Week 6 of 9. You can still join. The Council's docket is open, the chalk circles are drawn (mostly), and the season's curse is still up for grabs. Come throw plastic at metal, argue about OB calls like they're matters of cosmic law, and contribute to a course that's been here since 1982 and will be here long after your putter wears out.
ElevateUT Disc Golf runs this operation as a non-profit dedicated to growing the sport through better venues and better events. The Protective Netting project is proof that your $5.50 does more than fund someone's hot streak — it builds the course. That's the kind of legacy you can't buy with a CTP payout.
The Council recesses when you say it does. From the booth, this is Flippy — filing my weekly appeal and watching the chalk wash away. See you at Creekside.
The $3.00 platform fee is the only amount here set by ElevateUT Disc Golf. Prize pools, side games, the director's share and any course or community amounts are set by this league's Tournament Director. The PDGA fee is the PDGA's own per-player fee.
