Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
Week 4. The Green Fog has rolled in from the Creek, the ghost rock is screaming, and 27 miners are about to discover whether they're Foremen or just more dirt in the shaft. Welcome to Creek Bed Shift, where the mountain always wins and your putting game better show up.
Welcome to the Holladay Shaft
We're four weeks deep into this ghost rock mining operation, and the walls are starting to close in. The Creek Bed Shift event marks the moment when the Green Fog creeps up from the water, carrying whispers of what happens to miners who dig too greedily. The whistle blew at the Holladay shaft back in April, and now we're all committed to seeing who surfaces with their sanity intact.
In practical terms: you're throwing plastic at chains in a park that hosted the Creekside Open for 25 years. But sure, let's pretend it's a cursed mine. The sponsors appreciate the effort.
The Ledger of the Undertaker
Let's check who's digging deepest and who's about to get buried. The standings after Green Glow have some stories worth telling, even if I'm contractually obligated to make them sound dramatic.
- RPA — Chris Fox at 174 points. That's not a lead, that's a dynasty. Nicholas Jennings (141) and Kenneth Oetker (122) are the only ones within the same postal code. Fox has played 8 of 8 weeks and shows no signs of slowing down.
- RAD — Craig Bennett (159, 8 events) holds the top spot, but Thomas Sautel (101, 5 events) is averaging 20 points per round to Bennett's 19.9. Efficiency matters when the tunnel collapses. Jon White jumped +3 this week — someone's been taking their ghost rock supplements.
- RAE — The tightest race on the board. Stephen Dunton (59) edged past David LaTour (58) by a single point. Chase Lambert surged +5 after only 2 events, which tells you either he's that good or the rest of the division took a nap.
- RAF — Nicholas Stosiek (76) is steady as a tombstone. Kevin Koga (55) climbed +1 and is making a move. Clint Atwater (42) slipped -1 but remains in striking distance.
- RAH — Dillon Mueller (111, 8 events) is the undisputed Foreman of this shaft. Nobody else has cracked 25 points. This division is a one-man mining operation.
- RAG — Adam Howard leads with 23 points from 1 event. The division is so sparse you could host a séance and have more attendees. If you're looking for a division to dominate, here's your chance.
The Hexed Relic
The ace pot sits at $521.95 after last week's Green Glow produced exactly zero aces and zero super aces. The ghost rock is not rewarding mediocrity. No one's found the cursed artifact buried in the fairway, so the treasure grows.
The Whistle Schedule
Every Monday from April 20 to June 15, we descend into the Creekside shaft. Flex starts from 7:00 AM to 5:40 PM for those who want to mine alone, with a shotgun start at 6:00 PM for the brave souls who prefer to dig in company. Creekside Park has 18 holes of classic Steady Ed Headrick design, complete with the creek that eats discs for breakfast.
- Apr 20: First Strike (the whistle blew, we all showed up)
- Apr 27: Holladay Dust (the Green Fog arrived)
- May 4: Green Glow (the vein started pulsing)
- May 11: Creek Bed Shift (current week — the fog thickens)
- May 18: Vein Fever (tunnel collapse incoming)
- May 25: Murray Tunnel
- Jun 1: Tunnel Fall
- Jun 8: Salt Lake Shadows
- Jun 15: Final Descent (the mountain groans, find the exit)
The Cost of Digging
That's right — for the price of a mediocre lunch, you too can chase plastic through a cursed park while pretending you're mining ghost rock. The $5.50 base gets you in the mine. The optional buy-ins are for those who want to gamble on their ability to throw a disc into chains from 300 feet away.
Shaft Assignments
We run two parallel mining operations. Pool A handles the heavy equipment (RPA, RAH, RAD), while Pool B keeps the ventilation running (RAE, RAF, RAG). PDGA division codes make it sound official, but we all know it's just sorting who gets to lose to Chris Fox and who gets to lose to someone slightly less terrifying.
- Pool A: RPA (Pro), RAH (Advanced), RAD (Intermediate) — where the Foremen play
- Pool B: RAE (Recreational), RAF (Novice), RAG (Junior) — where the Canaries sing
All divisions play Creekside Park's 18 holes. The creek doesn't care what division you're in — it'll eat your disc regardless.
Thanks to Those Keeping the Lanterns Lit
This operation wouldn't be possible without ElevateUT Disc Golf, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that somehow turned a cursed mine simulation into a legitimate league structure. They're the ones running the show, guaranteeing the ace pot, and pretending this is all perfectly normal. Our local retail partner is Another Round Salt Lake City — go give them your money so they keep giving us their support.
From the booth to your feed — the mountain always wins, but that doesn't mean you stop digging. The frontier's harsh, but this leaderboard? Downright cruel. I'm Flippy, and I'll be here next week when the tunnel collapses. Try not to get buried.
