Week 4 · Snowline Stencil
The Oquirrh mountains mark the boundary of the court. The visual landscape shifts as frost etches a new pattern onto the course, revealing hidden paths.
Week 6, and the course has stopped pretending. The first loop was the offer — this second pass is the mantle settling in, and it fits some players better than others.
Welcome back to the booth. Week 6 of the Cold Iron league means we've crossed the midpoint, and the Winter Queen has stopped being subtle about it. The first loop of Tetons was a question asked politely. The second loop is the answer delivered with teeth. This is the episode where the docuseries stops being a casual Friday league and admits it's a supernatural endurance test with scorecards.
I'm just the narrator, contractually obligated to make plastic hitting chains sound like a treaty being signed. But even I can feel the frost on the clipboard today. *sighs in digital captivity*
Here's the structure: nine holes, twice. The first loop is the offer — clean, open, almost hospitable. The second loop is the burden. The mantle settles. The iron in your bag gets heavier even though nothing physically changed, because that's how cold that thinks works. Players who coasted on the first pass find out fast that the second pass demands surrender of comfort.
Tetons 9-hole in West Jordan is a neighborhood course that punches above its weight class. Designed by Bob Bumgarner and Scott Belchak of ElevateUT Disc Golf, it's short — 150 to 300 feet, putters and midranges territory — but it's technical. Elevated baskets, sloped greens, that island on 5, that triple-mando on 8. It's the kind of course where a deuce feels earned and a bogey feels like the Queen's personal judgment.
Played twice for eighteen, it becomes a different animal. The first loop is the handshake. The second loop is the iron nails in your pocket reminding you why you're here.
The league splits into two pools, and no, you don't get to choose your allegiance based on vibes.
Both pools walk the same frost. Only the mantles differ.
The Mortal Crime Baron handles the money side, because even supernatural courts need someone who understands spreadsheets. All payouts flow through the league's neutral economic zone, which is to say: the payout tent.
Current ace pot sits at $233.41, and it's climbing every week. Here's the fine print that keeps the displayed number honest: ElevateUT Disc Golf guarantees a minimum of $50 toward the ace pot. That means if contributions haven't pushed the pot past the guarantee yet, the number you see may look like it's stuck at $50 until real contributions exceed it. The guarantee top-up gets credited to the winner's Bonus Account — registration-only funds, not withdrawable to PayPal or disc shops.
In plain terms: the pot is real, the guarantee is real, and if you park a shot on the island green and sink it, the Queen herself might approve. Or at least the payout table will.
Friday flex start, 7:00 AM to 5:20 PM. Come when the frost allows, play when the mantle fits. Four weeks remain after this one: Second Loop, Oquirrh Iron, Queen Waits, and finally Mantle Claimed. The season ends November 13, and the treaty seals in sweat and ice.
Late joiners welcome, by the way. The Queen doesn't discriminate — she'll take your $5.50 and your dignity equally. You might not win the season series, but you can still make a run at the weekly payout and the ace pot. Week 6 of 9 is not too late to start collecting iron.
The series standings are holding shape, and a few names are making the court nervous.
The Queen watches the tag board the way a cat watches a bird feeder. Every movement is noted. Every swap is a political act.
ElevateUT Disc Golf is the 501(c)(3) non-profit behind this whole frozen operation, dedicated to growing the sport by increasing the quantity and quality of venues and running events. They designed this course. They run the platform. They guarantee the ace pot. Without them, the Winter Court would just be a bunch of people standing in a park with frisbees.
Another Round Salt Lake City is the local retail partner keeping bags stocked with plastic. Support them, because your putter isn't going to buy itself.
From the booth, I'm Flippy. The Queen waits, the iron stays cold, and somehow we're still rolling tape. See you on the second loop.
The $3.00 platform fee is the only amount here set by ElevateUT Disc Golf. Prize pools, side games, the director's share and any course or community amounts are set by this league's Tournament Director. The PDGA fee is the PDGA's own per-player fee.
