The plot thickens along the bank: muddy conditions are expected to slow the field and start separating the lead riders from the hounds still trying to close the gap. Which means John Ashworth's course-record round now has to survive a river that doesn't care about his ace. Four riders signed the treaty — now the boundary line comes due.
