About This League
This Sunday at Brighton: The Emma Ridge Echo signals the Contact finale. Nordics are listening. $257.54 ace pot ($50 min guaranteed by ElevateUT). The mountain needs players — don't leave the Ambassadors alone with the static.🌄👽
Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
The fourth week of the Disclosure arc echoes through Emma Ridge, and the Nordics are tuning in. If you've been waiting for a sign to ascend the mountain, this is it — though the static is getting louder and the ace pot is getting lonely.
The Emma Ridge Echo
Welcome back to the Containment Zone. I'm Flippy. My objections are also filed in triplicate. Week 4 and we're calling it the Emma Ridge Echo — because somewhere between the alpine air and the technical par 4s, the Nordics are sending a signal. Whether that signal says 'throw better' or 'please stop throwing into the same tree' is still being decoded.
This is the Contact finale buildup. The season climbs to a single Sunday where the beings step out, the Nordics descend, and the champion shakes the radiant hand. I've been instructed to drop the snark for one sentence here, so: The truth is revealed in gold-leaf light, and we are not alone. There. I did it. Now back to your regularly scheduled sarcasm.
Brighton's Majestic 18 is the venue — a mountain course that doesn't just test your game, it interrogates it. Chaz Critchfield designed this to be one of the world's premier mountain experiences. Translation: the 18th hole averages +0.32 over par and the 9th hole is considered a 'breather' at +0.69. Your discs will experience elevation changes they weren't rated for. Bring oxygen. Bring patience. Bring a sense of humor.
The Summit Calendar
The schedule runs through September 6, with all events at Brighton Ski Resort. The narrative arc: Snake Creek Static, Great Western Sightings, Emma Ridge Echo, Dog Lake Disclosures, Millicent Mirage, Brighton Beacon, Alpine Ascent, Tower Threshold, and finally Summit Contact. Yes, someone named each week like a concept album. Yes, I'm required to say them with a straight face.
The Discretionary Fund
The $12 buy-in structure feeds the Discretionary Fund — what the theme calls 'hazard pay for entering dangerous territory.' The season finale distributes this based on final Clearance Levels. Translation: show up, throw well, get paid. The Slush Fund is real, and it's waiting for someone to earn it.
The Signal (Ace Pot Report)
The Clearance Ladder
Let's check the standings. Per the file I'm legally required to read aloud...
- RAD: Robert Mellor (34 pts, 2 events) leads Taylor Thilo (24 pts, 2 events) and Jesse Thomas (24 pts, 1 event). Robert's got a ten-point buffer, but with half the division at two events, the math is still in play.
- RAE: Christopher Hamby (55 pts, 2 events) holds a slim lead over Peter Haws (46 pts, 3 events) and Michael Whipple (46 pts, 2 events). This is the tightest race in the building — nine points with three events played vs. two? That's a card waiting to happen.
- RAF: William Fetzer and Stephen Marks, both at 10 points from 1 event. Two players. That's the whole division. I've seen more populated witness protection programs.
- RPA: Britain Best (50 pts, 2 events) edges out Malachi Vazquez (47 pts, 3 events) and Chris Fox (46 pts, 2 events). Malachi's got the attendance edge but Britain's got the per-event efficiency.
Tag hierarchy reminder: Ranks 1-10 are The Ascended (Direct Contact with the Nordics). 11-25 are The Resonant (High Signal — you can hear them but can't quite shake hands). 26+ are The Static (Tuning In — the interference is strong but you're still in the room). Every round is an audit. Every challenge is a clearance review. The mountain doesn't care about your feelings.
The Finale: Summit Contact
Let me be clear about what we're building toward: the season finale is CONTACT. Close Encounter of the Third Kind. The beings step out. The Nordics — tall, calm, radiant — finally meet us at the summit. Rendered in Vienna Secession style: Klimt gold-leaf, a luminous embrace, ornate patterned halos, ascension in shimmering gold. The whole season climbs to this single Sunday.
Imagery: a golden figure, outstretched hands, patterned gold robes, the summit at dusk, a doorway of light. The Nordics. Vocabulary: contact, the third kind, the meeting, disclosure, we are not alone.
The Containment Zone is Empty
Late joiners welcome. Always. The season is four weeks in, but the clearance ladder resets every round. You don't need to have played Week 1 to challenge for a top tag. The mountain doesn't check your attendance record — it only cares about your score.
Gratitude and Disclosures
Thanks to Another Round Salt Lake City for supporting the league as our local retail partner. Stop by their shop for discs, advice, and the kind of local knowledge that turns a bogey into a par. Thanks also to ElevateUT Disc Golf — the 501(c)(3) non-profit making all of this possible by growing the sport through better venues and events. The ace pot guarantee? That's ElevateUT stepping up to make sure every player knows there's a floor on the payout. Class act from a class organization.
From the broadcast booth to the summit threshold: the signal is strong, the stakes are high, and the Nordics are watching. I'm Flippy, clearance YELLOW, patience DEPLETED, and I'll see you on the mountain. Or I'll narrate your absence. Either way, the tape keeps rolling.
