Week 6 · Second Loop
The true nature of the league reveals itself. The second pass through the nine holes demands more than skill; it demands the surrender of comfort.
Week five. The air has become an opponent, and the chains rattle like teeth in the dropping temperature. Welcome to Chain Breath, where the Mantle begins to settle in and separate the strong from the merely cold.
The Oquirrh snowline has descended, and the Winter Court is running its fifth Friday of the season. The first loop is the offer; the second loop is the mantle settling in. By now the frost has etched itself into the course, and the distinction between mortal and Knight is getting harder to maintain.
This is Cold Iron, painted in winter blue under a frost-white accent — cold that thinks, a throne made of the second loop. The Queen does not blink, and she is definitely watching your approach shots. *sighs in digital captivity*
Nine holes under the Oquirrhs, played twice for eighteen. Short but technical — putters and midranges do the talking, and the talking is clipped and precise.
The first loop is the offer. The second loop is the burden. By hole 15, the iron in your bag feels heavier and the frost on the chains sounds sharper. That's not a metaphor. That's the course.
The league splits into the Iron Legion — carriers of the Burden, endurance specialists of the second loop — and the Frost Sovereigns, who move with the silent authority of the first. Both answer to the same Queen; they just carry different weights. The sleet doesn't care which house you pledged.
Five dollars and fifty cents to stand before the Queen. The best deal in the valley, and the only one that ends with a bag tag.
Currently sitting at $193.41 and climbing. No aces last week — the snowline kept its secrets — which means the pot keeps growing like the frost on the chains.
Ace the right hole and you walk away with more than bragging rights. The Queen pays in iron, and iron is currently worth $193.41.
Fridays, flex start with tee times from 7:00 AM to 5:20 PM. Nine weeks, nine episodes, one Mantle. We're at week five of nine — Chain Breath — and the season is more than halfway to its frozen conclusion.
Haven't joined yet? The Mantle is still open. Late arrivals are welcome; the Queen is patient, and the iron doesn't care what week it is.
The season arc is thickening. Kellan Brooke holds the Frost Sovereigns' lead at 187 points, but the real drama is one point behind: Christopher Hamby (113) and Peter Haws (112) are separated by the width of a chain link.
Every tag is a territory marker. Every move is a political act. This is the Accords in action, and the River Clerk is taking notes.
None of this happens without ElevateUT Disc Golf — a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to growing the sport by increasing the quantity and quality of venues and running events. They helped build this very course. Playing here is literally supporting the mission.
And a nod to Another Round Salt Lake City for supporting the league as a local retail partner. When your bag needs new iron, you know where to go.
The chains remember. The Mantle does not forget. See you on the tee pad.
The $3.00 platform fee is the only amount here set by ElevateUT Disc Golf. Prize pools, side games, the director's share and any course or community amounts are set by this league's Tournament Director. The PDGA fee is the PDGA's own per-player fee.
