The Thorn Covenant was forged in the earliest days of the Deadlands when the first survivors discovered that aggression alone wouldn't guarantee remembrance. Those who learned to absorb punishment and persist rather than strike first formed an unspoken pact - their scars became their symbols, their endurance became their covenant, and the frontier marked them as unbreakable.
The bearer carries visible thorn-marks etched into their form that appear after surviving close eliminations. The Covenant grants resistance to aggressive attacks from rivals - the first strike against a thorn-bearer fails to find its mark. The marks glow with the gold accent color when the bearer faces imminent culling, creating a visible warning to attackers. Those bearing the Covenant share a subtle connection, able to recognize each other through the pattern of their scars.
The Thorn Covenant serves as the Deadlands' acknowledgment that survival through endurance is as worthy as aggressive conquest. Bearers are marked as unbreakable survivors whose very existence proves the frontier's cruelty cannot break all who enter. This creates a series-spanning identity that persists across multiple leagues, connecting competitors who share this defensive survival philosophy.
