When the Thunderbird's first storm swept across the Great Plains, its lightning struck an ancient petroglyph site, awakening and transforming a wandering Popobawa that had followed ancient migration routes from distant lands. Bound to the sacred rock formations by the Thunderbird's power, it became the keeper and interpreter of the storm-bringer's earthly secrets, its essence forever intertwined with the weathered stones and hidden passages of the plains.

The Petroglyph Popobawa possesses the ability to merge with rock formations, traveling through stone as easily as through air and emerging from any petroglyph-marked surface. It can decipher ancient rock carvings that remain indecipherable to others, absorbing their knowledge and transferring it through touch to worthy Earthbound Guardians. When threatened, it can harden its skin to stone-like resilience or shape-shift parts of its body into living petroglyphs that pulse with protective power drawn directly from the earth.

The Petroglyph Popobawa guides the Earthbound Guardians to hidden chambers beneath the Great Plains where the Thunderbird's most potent secrets lie inscribed in stone, teaching them to read the ancient language of rock and earth that reveals pathways to power inaccessible to those who seek knowledge only in the sky.
