Interstitial Hodag

The Interstitial Hodag evolved from the original Wisconsin lumber camp hoax when the collective belief in the creature created a tear in the veil between reality and myth, allowing the Hodag to manifest as a true interdimensional being. Now existing in the liminal spaces between all cryptid domains, the Interstitial Hodag travels freely between regions and timeframes, collecting knowledge from each cryptid encounter and preserving their stories in its spike-adorned hide, which glows with ethereal light when it passes through the boundaries between worlds.

Unlike the original Hodag of Wisconsin lore, the Interstitial Hodag can phase between different cryptid domains by stepping through the thin spaces where realities overlap, its spiked hide glowing with ethereal blue light during transitions. Its body serves as a living archive, with each spine and scale recording encounters with other cryptids through patterns that shift and rearrange like living hieroglyphics. When in the presence of other cryptids, the Interstitial Hodag can temporarily adopt their most distinctive traits—briefly growing the tentacles of a Kraken or the wings of a Thunderbird—allowing it to communicate across species barriers and translate knowledge between different cryptid communities.
