Fading Contract

When the Salt Lake Accords were first inscribed by the Tentacled River Clerks in a ceremony lost to history, each magical agreement was accompanied by a Fading Contract - a living document that exists in parallel to every player's disc golf career. These contracts were inscribed in blood-gold ink on parchment blessed by the river spirits, binding each player to the treaty from their first tournament. The moment a player signs up to compete, their contract materializes in their hands, warm and crisp, ready to track their fate within the Accords.

The Fading Contract is a self-aware parchment scroll, approximately 11x17 inches, with ornate border designs that slowly erode as the player's rating drops. It is warm to the touch when ratings are rising and cold as ice when declining. The document changes weight based on rating - becoming impossibly heavy when a player's standing is high and feather-light when near the dreaded threshold. Most disturbingly, when a player's rating drops below the threshold, pages begin to crumble away into ash, taking with them fragments of the player's memory and skill. The contract cannot be destroyed by conventional means; it can only fade.

The Fading Contract serves as each player's personal stake in the Salt Lake Accords - it tracks their standing, warns them of impending curses through physical deterioration, and determines what happens when their rating drops too far. When a player's contract fully fades, the death curse triggers, and they must face the supernatural consequence prescribed by the treaty. The contract also serves as proof of standing, required for tournament participation and faction dealings.
