Torn Margin

During the Great Digital Migration, Bureau archivists discovered that physical document destruction left more traceable evidence than digital redaction. They developed the Torn Margin technique - deliberately tearing documents rather than shredding them, creating a visible record of what was removed while making recovery impossible. The jagged tear pattern became the Bureau's signature method for showing that information existed without revealing what it contained.

The torn edge appears on player files, showing where information was physically removed. The dimensions of the tear indicate the significance of hidden information - larger tears mean more significant secrets. Torn Margins cannot be repaired or recovered - what's torn is permanently gone. The torn paper has a distinctive jagged pattern unique to each removal, making every Torn Margin identifiable.

Creates persistent paranoia by showing players that significant information was removed from their opponents' records - they can see the shape of secrets without knowing what they contain. When another player carries a Torn Margin designation, competitors know their Bureau file has been deliberately altered, but can never determine what achievements, failures, or allegiances have been torn away.
