About This League
The Pattern at River Bottoms in Draper. Wed flex start 7AM-5:20PM starting Jul 1. Ace Pot min $50 guaranteed by ElevateUT. The tall grass is talking. Are you listening? 🔷🌀
Commentary from Flippy (your trapped narrator)
Something moved through the tall grass last night. Left a signature. Perfect geometry. Impossible circles. The Pattern is here, and you're either part of it or you're standing on the wrong side of the OB line.
The Formation
Welcome to The Pattern. A 10-week dive into River Bottoms Disc Golf Course where the tall grass doesn't just grow — it arranges itself. Crop circles. Concentric rings. Hypnotic black-and-white waves that seem to move when you look at them sideways. The field green (#2F7D4F) canvas, the ink black (#101010) geometry, the bright white (#F2F2F0) stakes marking where the pattern ends and you begin.
This is Bridget Riley meets the Jordan River floodplain. Op Art pressed into dirt. Moire patterns that vibrate in the afternoon heat. Surveyor's precision that shouldn't exist in a conservation area. The Pattern doesn't ask who made it. The Pattern asks if you're brave enough to throw through it.
Shift Times & Clearance Windows
The government doesn't clock in at the same time every day, and neither should you. Show up when the signal hits. Find your card. Execute the audit. Leave before the Pattern closes behind you.
The Slush Fund
Every mission requires funding. The buy-in is hazard pay for entering Pattern territory. Here's what you're contributing to the war chest:
- Base entry: $5.50 (this funds the resistance)
- Prize money buy-in: $5.00 (optional — for those who trust their clearance)
- Ace pot: $5.00 (optional — the jackpot for intercepting the signal)
- Super ace: $2.00 (optional — for those who think one ace isn't enough)
Classification Levels
Your division determines your clearance ceiling. Pool A handles the classified layouts. Pool B is where you prove you can handle the truth. Tags move between pools like documents between safes — careful who you hand yours to.
The Jackpot Signal
The ace pot starts at $50.00, guaranteed by ElevateUT Disc Golf — the facilitating organization, not the disc shop. Another Round Salt Lake City is our local retail partner and sponsor, keeping the shelves stocked with the plastic you'll use to chase the Pattern.
DISCLOSURE Protocol
This league operates under the DISCLOSURE framework. You're not just playing for tags — you're maintaining security clearance. Tag #1 is 'Cosmic Top Secret.' The lowest tag is 'Unclassified.' Every challenge is an Audit. Every bad round gets Redacted. The League Director is your Handler, delivering mission parameters with a straight face while you try to explain how you triple-bogeyed a par 3.
- The Slush Fund: Your buy-ins build the war chest for the Night Siege finale
- The Audit: Challenge a higher clearance, take their tag, assume their identity
- Eyes Only: Low tags earn access to classified course information
- Deniability: Bad rounds never happened. The Pattern erased them.
The season builds to one moment — The Night Siege at Brighton. High altitude. Total darkness. First contact. Only those with sufficient clearance will be invited. The Pattern is watching.
The Visual Language
THE PATTERN is the signature left in the field: impossible geometry pressed into tall grass overnight, perfect and silent. River Bottoms' tall riverside grasses are the literal canvas. We're talking Op Art here — Bridget Riley optical geometry, hypnotic black-and-white waves, moire that vibrates when you stare too long, concentric rings that seem to move in your peripheral vision.
Think crop formations. Flattened grass swirls. Concentric circles that look like surveyor's geometry gone rogue. A pattern that hurts to look at but demands your attention. The formation. The glyph. Overnight. Who made this? The answer is probably 'the wind' but that's not as fun, is it?
The Containment Zone
River Bottoms isn't just a course — it's the landing site. Links-style terrain on the Jordan River floodplain. 18 holes playing 5,900 to 7,300 feet depending on layout. White stakes everywhere, carving narrow fairways through wild grass that hasn't decided if it wants to be rough or OB.
- Hole 9: Triple mandatory structure — looks like a landing beacon, plays like a geometry test
- Hole 14: 612-foot par 4 into the prevailing wind — good luck, agent
- Hole 5: Short ace run with OB hugging the green — the Pattern wants your disc
- Wind: Constant. The river corridor funnels air like a wind tunnel designed by someone who hates disc golf
The course opened in 2024, designed by ElevateUT Disc Golf in collaboration with Draper City. Concrete tees, MVP Black Hole Portal baskets, graphic tee signs. It's one of Utah's few true 'bomber' courses where you can air it out — until the Pattern closes in and your disc ends up in geometry you can't explain.
From the broadcast booth, I'm Flippy. The season hasn't started yet and I'm already seeing patterns where there are none. That's the job. See you in the tall grass. 🔷🌀
