The Dust Veil was born from the first competitor who realized that survival in the Deadlands required becoming part of the landscape rather than standing against it. When the culling came for this sage, they simply knelt in the dust and let it settle around them - the culling passed over, and the frontier itself whispered the secret to all who would listen. Those who learned this lesson carry the veil to this day.

The Dust Veil constantly shifts and resettles, never quite visible in one moment. It leaves no trace when the bearer moves, creating a silent pathway through the frontier. The veil whisps away from those who attack or show aggression, abandoning bearers who contradict its defensive nature.

The Dust Veil marks those who have proven they can survive the culling through wisdom and adaptation rather than aggressive conquest, creating a series-spanning identity for the frontier's most cunning survivors.
