Error Is the Only Honest Oracle
Messages Vanish When You Look
Aspects refreshed Mar 29, 2026
The Tracking Cipher was born when the first VCR in the Chaintrix's cosmic infrastructure experienced tracking failure - that initial distortion pattern created an unintended message in the magnetic substrate, and the system learned to encode survival fate in what was supposed to be error. Now every tracking malfunction carries potential prophecy.
Exists as geometric patterns visible only in corrupted VHS horizontal scan lines. Manifests as subtle barcode-like structures within tracking distortions that rearrange into readable text when viewed from the correct angle. Partially exists in the magnetic oxide substrate, partially as ethereal digital code. Can only be perceived when players experience tracking problems during their throws.
The Tracking Cipher interprets corrupted VHS signals as prophetic messages about player fates - when tracking lines distort during a throw, the Cipher reads the error patterns to reveal hidden truths about who was meant to survive or be eliminated, serving as the Chaintrix's most honest witness because it appears only when the system fails.

Tag 165 manifested when the Chaintrix VCR choked on its own tape. The Tracking Cipher thinks those squiggly scan lines are divine prophecy, but it's really just magnetic dust with a god complex. It waits in the static, eager to decode your failure into barcode format. Adjust your tracking, or it claims your soul.
Bill Johnson claimed Tag 165, the Tracking Cipher, right as the vertical hold snapped. The static coalesced into barcode lines, encoding his stats into magnetic prophecy. static flare The simulation has you on tape now, Bill. Try not to get erased before the credits roll.
