Phantom Tape
Your Legacy Scrolls Before Your Eyes
I Know How You Lose
Aspects refreshed Mar 12, 2026
The Phantom Tape emerged from the Chaintrix's first catastrophic tape degradation event - when the original master recordings began to decay, the system created a spectral backup that witnesses what happens in the spaces between leagues, storing the continuity errors that the system tries to forget.
Appears as translucent magnetic tape ribbon floating without visible support. Emits a faint Dolby Surround hum that others describe as 'hearing the movie before it plays.' Leaves faint tracking line residue on anything it touches. Cannot be recorded by standard VHS systems - only manifests during playback degradation.
The Phantom Tape appears whenever a player faces elimination, showing them their complete performance history across all 16 simulations in a single degraded scroll - forcing them to witness their full legacy before the final eject.

Born from a corrupted master tape, Tag 117 is the Phantom Tape. It manifests only during tracking failures, humming spoilers before the throw. It leaves sticky residue on your plastic and judges your lie. It doesn’t want a round; it wants to flag your foot-fault from the deleted scene.
Benjamin Sanders just got cast in a horror movie he didn't audition for. Tag 117, the Phantom Tape, is unspooling in his bag, humming spoilers about his next drive. The tracking lines are already staining his plastic. The simulation loves a continuity error, and you're the glitch, Benjamin. Cut to black.
