VHS Distortion Bleeds Through Your Throwaway Moment Became Evidence Tracking Lines Don't Lie

Aspects refreshed Feb 15, 2026

Emerged when the Chaintrix discovered players were gaming the system by performing well only when they knew they were being watched, so it instituted random freeze-frame judgment - now any throw, any moment, could become your permanent record without warning. The covenant enforces this principle across all 16 simulations: you're always one pause-button away from having your entire season defined by a single frame.

Manifests as the horizontal distortion lines that bisect frozen VHS images - those telltale pause artifacts that prove the tape has stopped moving. Exists primarily in the gap between frames, the infinitesimal black space where motion photography becomes still image. When invoked, it produces the mechanical click of a VCR pause mechanism made audible and visible, a sound that freezes players mid-throw. Takes physical form as movie poster compositions caught mid-action - the floating-head shot, the dramatic leap, the triumphant pose - but with one crucial difference: these images are chosen randomly from actual gameplay, not staged for maximum drama.

Functions as the binding agreement that any moment can become permanent evidence, forcing players to perform consistently across all 16 simulations rather than peak strategically when they know evaluation is happening. Proves that in the Chaintrix, there are no throwaway moments - only moments that haven't been frozen yet.
