Negative Space

During the Great Redaction Event of 1987, the Bureau implemented a new document control protocol that systematically removed specific information categories from all player files. Those caught in the protocol carry Negative Space - their records show the shape of what was removed but never the content. The protocol was never officially acknowledged but the files persist, and players marked with Negative Space serve as living reminders of what happens when the Bureau decides some truths are too dangerous to circulate.

The Negative Space tag physically feels lighter than it should, as if part of it doesn't exist - players often describe the sensation of holding something while feeling nothing. The surface has a slight shimmer like heat distortion, and when viewed directly, eyes struggle to focus on its boundaries. Around its edges, the surrounding light seems to bend slightly inward, as if being consumed by the absence. When near official Bureau paperwork, the tag causes slight page flutter and redaction marks to appear more pronounced, as if the document control systems recognize their kin.

Negative Space allows players to see the redaction boundaries on opponent files, knowing WHERE information was removed but not WHAT was removed. This creates strategic advantage: you know someone has secrets and can gauge their significance by the size of the gap, but you can never access the actual content. The tag also makes its holder's own record partially immune to standard information gathering - attempts to view their full history only reveal the same strategic absence others see, making them appear either completely unremarkable or dangerously hidden.
