Margin Note
The Margin Always Has the Last Word
Can't Stop Reading Between the Lines
Aspects refreshed Jul 04, 2026
The Margin Note system was implemented after the Great Audit of 2019 when the Bureau realized official records had become too sanitized to be useful. Agents began writing informal observations in the margins of player files - observations too candid for the main record but too valuable to discard. Within three fiscal quarters, the practice became official protocol, though margin notes remain separate from official files and accessible only to those with Level 4 clearance or higher.
Margin Notes appear as elegant cursive handwriting in the margins of player documents, written in a distinctive blue ink that seems to glow faintly under Bureau-issue lighting. The handwriting varies by author, creating a tapestry of different hands across a player's competitive history. Some notes are brief - a single word, a symbol, a question mark - while others fill entire margins with detailed behavioral observations. The notes accumulate over time, meaning more margin notes indicates more Bureau attention.
Margin Note serves as the Bureau's true opinion layer - a parallel tracking system that reveals what agents really think about players, which may differ significantly from their official clearance status. In a world where 'Trust No One' is the operative motto, the margin notes expose the hidden concerns, suspicions, and occasionally praises that exist outside the official narrative.
